Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea are going to be facing the reigning Cypriot Champions, Pafos, who are currently led by their Spanish Head Coach, Juan Carlos Carcedo. This game is going to take place during the league phase of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League, with the match itself set to be played at the historic Stamford Bridge, which is located at the heart of West London.

The Blues are going to be favourites going into this fixture at the Bridge, and victory here against the Cypriot counterparts would see them take a step closer to realising their ambitions for the current campaign in the Champions League, whilst it would also give them much-needed fresh momentum going into the rest of the competition.

A very creditable 4th place in the Premier League last season was enough for Maresca’s Blues side to secure themselves qualification for this competition for the 2025/26 campaign. They finished in this position, accumulating a total of 69 points from their 38 games, and became one of the five English clubs to qualify for this season’s Champions League, alongside the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Newcastle United.

Chelsea is seen as one of the biggest clubs not only in Europe, but also in the world, and they are also a club that possesses a significant amount of European pedigree. Firstly, they have won 2 Champions League titles, doing so back in 2012 and 2021. The former saw the Blues beat Bayern Munich in a penalty shootout, winning 4 – 3 after two sides had ended the game level after extra time.

Then came their most recent triumph in the Champions League, which came back in 2021. They were able to beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City 1 – 0, thanks to a goal from German international Kai Havertz, who found the back of the net for the West London Club towards the end of the first half (42’).

They have also won two UEFA Europa League titles (2013 & 2019), one UEFA Conference League title (2025), 2 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cups (1971 & 1998), and finally 2 UEFA Super Cups (1998 & 2021).

Moving on to Pafos, the 2025/26 campaign will see the club participate in the UEFA Champions League for the very first time in their history. And, as mentioned previously, they are the reigning Cypriot Champions.

They participated in the UEFA Conference League last season, advancing to the Round of 16 before being knocked out by Swedish side Djurgarden. Pafos were beaten 3 – 1 over two legs in the end, with the Cypriot side losing despite winning the first leg 1 – 0.

This will be the first time that Chelsea and Pafos have ever met in a competitive fixture. The Blues will be hoping to come away with a victory in their maiden encounter with their Cypriot counterparts.
