Everton, led by their Scottish Head Coach David Moyes, is set to welcome a Scott Parker led newly promoted Burnley side to their new home, the all-new and modern Hill Dickinson Stadium in the heart of Merseyside. This game promises to be enthralling and highly competitive, with it set to be played during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The aim for this latest top flight campaign for the Toffees will be to look to seal a solid and very respectable mid table finish, whilst potentially finishing even higher than that by ending up in the top half by the time that this season comes to a close with all 38 games having been played. Victory against the Clarets would see them take a significant step closer to realising their ambitions for this term.
This will be the first time in the history of this fixture that Everton and Burnley will be going head to head in a competitive game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, which has a capacity of no less than 52,769 seats which makes for an incredible atmosphere, with game promising to be enthralling. This is the first home game for the Blues against their Lancashire counterparts since they left the historic Goodison Park at the end of last season.
David Moyes is, of course, the current Head Coach of Everton Football Club, and he is currently enjoying what is his second spell in charge of the Merseyside based club with his return being 12 years following his original departure from the club in 2013. This was when he left to succeed fellow Scot at Manchester United as the successor to the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.
His first era at Everton lasted for 11 years between 2002 and 2013, and during this time several iconic players wore the blue of the Toffees during that time – this included the likes of Tim Cahill, Wayne Rooney, David Unsworth, Thomas Gravesen, Tim Howard, Yakubu, Steven Pienaar, Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines, as well as many more.
During his time away from the club, Moyes took charge of several football clubs, including Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland, and West Ham, the latter of which he managed twice during his more than a decade away from Everton. In 2023, he got his hands on some European silverware when he led his West Ham United team to win that year’s UEFA Conference League trophy with a 2 – 1 final win against Italian Serie A side Fiorentina.
The goals on that day for the Hammers came from Said Benrahma (62’ – Penalty) and Jarrod Bowen (90’), whereas it was Giacomo Bonaventura who was the only goal scorer for La Viola on that day in the second half (67’).
David Moyes’ return to Everton Football Club was announced back on Saturday 11th January 2025, with the Scotsman officially succeeding Sean Dyche at the Blues. During his first months in charge, he oversaw a true transformation in the club’s fortunes, with the Toffees going from being deep in relegation trouble to surviving relegation comfortably by a margin of no less than 17 points in the end.
They had finished in a very respectable 13th place with a total of 48 points overall to their name after their 38 matches had been played.
Moving on to Burnley, their English Head Coach Scott Parker has been in charge of the Lancashire based club ever since he succeeded Vincent Kompany back on 5th July 2024 following Kompany’s departure for Bayern Munich. In the 2024/25 season, Parker led the Clarets to automatic promotion with a second place finish after earning a grand total of no less than 100 points in the EFL Championship and only missing out on the title to Leeds United on goal difference alone.
The last time that these two clubs met competitively in all competitions was in the Premier League back on Sunday 6th April 2024, with Everton beating Burnley 1 – 0 at Goodison Park thanks to a winning goal from Dominic Calvert-Lewin early on in the first half stoppage time (45+2’).
Overall, Everton and Burnley have met competitively in all competitions on no less than 123 occasions, and it is the Toffees who currently have the superior record of no less than 55 wins so far, compared with Burnley’s total of 38 wins to date. As of the time of writing, there have been 30 draws between these two teams.
