Liverpool, who are currently led by their Dutch Head Coach Arne Slot, are set to welcome Luis Enrique’s PSG, who are not only the reigning French Champions, but they are also the reigning Champions of Europe after winning the most recent final. The two sides are going to be facing each other in the second leg of their quarter-final tie in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League at Anfield in the heart of Merseyside. These two sides will be facing each other on Tuesday, 14th April 2026.
The Reds will, of course, have their sights set on victory over the two legs against the Parisians, as they look to continue their journey in this season’s Champions League competition by booking themselves a place in the semi-finals, as they look to become European Champions for the seventh time in Budapest in May. It would also be a statement of intent to the rest of the teams in this season’s competition if they get the better of Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool began their journey in the latest iteration of the UEFA Champions League this term in the League Phase, where they finished as high as 3rd place with 18 points after all eight games had been played, winning 6 whilst losing only 2. They finished only behind German Giants Bayern Munich and fellow Premier League side Arsenal, who finished in 2nd and 1st place, respectively.
In the League Phase, the Reds secured their wins against the likes of Spain’s Atletico Madrid (3 – 2), Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt (5 – 1), Spain’s Real Madrid (1 – 0), Italy’s Inter Milan (1 – 0), France’s Marseille (3 – 0), and finally Azerbaijan’s Qarabag, who they were able to beat emphatically 6 – 0 at Anfield in the heart of Merseyside. This, of course, secured them an automatic place in the Round of 16. The only defeats were against Galatasaray (1 – 0) and PSV Eindhoven (4 – 1).
Then, in the Round of 16, Arne Slot’s Liverpool were drawn against the aforementioned Galatasaray over two legs, with them facing the Turkish Giants away from home first. In the first leg, Liverpool were narrowly beaten 1 – 0 in Istanbul thanks to a winning goal from former Southampton, Fulham, and Wolves midfielder Mario Lemina early in the first half, finding the back of the net within the first ten minutes of the game (7’).
Liverpool then had some work to do in the second leg at Anfield. Slot’s side were able to turn things around in this tie in emphatic fashion, with the Reds winning comfortably 4 – 0 on the night to secure a 4 – 1 win on aggregate. The goal scorers for the home side on that night were the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai (25’), Hugo Ekitiké (51’), Ryan Gravenberch (53’), and Mohamed Salah (62’).
Now, Arne Slot’s Liverpool are going to be taking on French Giants Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League, with the second and final leg taking place at Anfield.
Moving on to Liverpool’s opponents in the Quarter Finals, Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain side stands in the way of their hosts’ spot in the final four of this season’s competition.
We are going to start with the League Phase, where PSG finished in 11th place with 14 points, winning 4, drawing 2, and losing 2 of their 8 matches. This meant they had to go through the Knockout Phase Play-Offs to reach the Round of 16.
In the league phase, their victories came against the likes of Italy’s Atalanta (4 – 0), Spain’s FC Barcelona (2 – 1), Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen (7 – 2), and finally Premier League outfit Spurs, who they beat 5 – 3 at the Stade de France in the French Capital City of Paris. Their two draws came against Spain’s Athletic Club (0 – 0) and England’s Newcastle United (1 – 1), whilst their defeats were against the likes of Germany’s Bayern Munich (2 – 1) and Portugal’s Sporting CP (2 – 1).
Then, in the knockout play-offs, they faced fellow French Ligue 1 Club AS Monaco over two legs. The first leg away from home at the Stade Louis II, where they came from two goals down to win 3 – 2 following goals from Desire Doue (29’, 67’) and Achraf Hakimi (41’). Monaco had opened the scoring through former Arsenal forward Florian Balogun, who scored both of their goals on the night (1’, 18’).
In the second leg, Paris Saint-Germain managed to just about secure their place in the Round of 16 with what turned out to be a narrow 5 – 4 win on aggregate after drawing 2 – 2 at home at the aforementioned Stade de France. Hosts PSG scored through Marquinhos (60’) and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (66’), whilst visitors AS Monaco scored following goals from Maghnes Akliouche (45’) and 26-year-old Dutch right back Jordan Teze, who scored his goal in second-half stoppage time (90+1’).
The draw for the Round of 16 saw Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain side paired up with Premier League club Chelsea over two legs, with the Parisians going on to make it through to the Quarter Finals in emphatic fashion after beating the Blues 8 – 2 on aggregate in the end.
The first leg was played in France at the Stade de France in Paris. In the end, it was a 5 – 2 victory for PSG, who got their goals through Bradley Barcola (10’), Ousmane Dembele (40’), Vitinha (74’), and finally Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who scored a brace (86’, 90+4’). Chelsea got their goals through Malo Gusto (28’) and Enzo Fernandez (57’).
Then, in the second leg, PSG won 3 – 0 at Stamford Bridge away from home, with the goals in that second leg coming from the aforementioned Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (6’) and Bradley Barcola (15’), as well as 19-year-old forward Senny Mayulu (62’).
Before this season’s Quarter Finals, Liverpool and PSG have met 4 times, with 2 wins each. Liverpool’s most recent victory against Paris Saint-Germain was on Matchday 1 of the 2018/19 Group Stages, where it was a 3 – 2 victory at Anfield for the Reds.
The goals for the Reds on that night came from the likes of Daniel Sturridge (30’), James Milner (36’ – Penalty), and Roberto Firmino (90+2’), whilst the French side scored their goals through the likes of Thomas Meunier (40’) and Kylian Mbappe (83’).
Excitement and anticipation are already building ahead of the blockbuster second leg of this high-profile 2025/26 UEFA Champions League quarter-final between Liverpool and PSG, with an electric atmosphere to boot. Book now to avoid disappointment.
