Hospitality guests are not permitted to wear ripped denim or tracksuits. Please be aware that if you are arriving at The Beautiful Game, there is a smart casual dress code, and trainers, football shirts, and tracksuits are not permitted.

Liverpool, who are currently led by their Dutch Head Coach Arne Slot, are going to be going head to head with Will Still’s Southampton side who were relegated from the Premier League last season in the third round of the Carabao Cup. The Saints currently play their football in the Championship. This game is going to be played in the heart of Merseyside at the iconic and historic Anfield.

Suppose the Reds can get a victory against the Saints. In that case, they will be taking a step closer to realising their ambitions for the current campaign, which is to reach the final at Wembley Stadium, where they hope to lift the League Cup for what would be the 11th time in their illustrious history.

As a side participating in European Football this season once more, they got a bye in the previous round of this season’s competition, so their journey in the 2025/26 Carabao Cup will start here on Merseyside against their South Coast counterparts. Victory here would be crucial for the club as they look to add a plethora of silverware to their extensive trophy cabinet this season.

As of the time of writing, Liverpool are currently the most successful side in the history of this competition, having so far won it as many as 10 times. The next most successful team in League Cup history is Manchester City with 8. The Reds have lifted this trophy in 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1995, 2001, 2003, 2012, 2022, and most recently in 2024, when they were able to beat Chelsea 1 – 0 after extra time, thanks to what was a dramatic winning goal from their Dutch central defender Virgil Van Dijk deep into extra time (118’).

Moving on to Southampton, the Championship side, who are led by their English Head Coach Will Still, began their Carabao Cup campaign this season with a First Round tie against League One outfit.

Northampton Town away from home at Sixfields back in August 2025. The Saints were 1 – 0 winners thanks to a goal that came for the Saints from Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes early on in the second half (48’).

They then went on to beat fellow Championship side Norwich City away from home in a Second Round tie back on Tuesday 26th August 2025. This game ended up being a very comfortable and thoroughly deserved 3 – 0 triumph, with this win coming courtesy of goals from the likes of Cameron Archer (42’), Ryan Fraser (62’), and Kuryu Matsuki (81’).

Whilst they have never won the League Cup, but Southampton has been runners-up twice, reaching the final in 1979 and as recently as 2017. In 1979, they were defeated 3 – 2 by Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest, whereas in 2017 they were beaten by 3 – 2 by Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.

The last time that these two clubs met in the Carabao Cup was in the fifth round back on Wednesday 18th December 2024 at the famous St. Mary’s Stadium. It was a 2 – 1 victory for Liverpool, who won thanks to goals from the likes of Darwin Nunez (24’) and Harvey Elliott (32’), whilst the only goal of that game to be scored by the Saints came from their English striker Cameron Archer in the second half (59’).

Overall, Liverpool and Southampton have met on as many as 122 occasions, and it is the Reds who currently hold the superior record, with 65 victories in this fixture, compared to 31 for their South Coast counterparts. There have also been 26 draws between these two sides over the years, as of the time of writing.
