Manchester City finished 2nd in Pep Guardiola’s final season in charge, finishing seven points behind Premier League Champions Arsenal.
City pushed The Gunners all the way but couldn’t quite get their hands on another Premier League title before Guardiola’s departure.
Despite missing out on the Premier League title, City did lift both domestic cups after final wins over Chelsea and Arsenal at Wembley.
Erling Haaland once again impressed throughout the campaign, getting his name on the scoresheet 38 times in all competitions.
Midway through the season, Man City brought in Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, who settled into life in Manchester very quickly.
The Ghanaian winger netted 21 across all competitions throughout the 25/26 season.
City’s new manager Enzo Maresca has found plenty of success since entering the dugout following his playing career.
Maresca managed Leicester to the EFL Championship title in 2024 before joining Chelsea as their Head Coach.
The former Juventus midfielder was a huge favourite amongst the fanbase but failed to share a vision with the club’s board of directors, resulting in them parting ways.
AFC Bournemouth is a club that has a history stretching back to its founding as Boscombe FC in 1899. They play their matches at the Vitality Stadium as one of only two clubs based on the South Coast to be currently playing their football at the top table of English Football alongside Brighton.
The Cherries are currently entering a phase of change. Andoni Iraola, who has led the club to a place in the UEFA Europa League left the club following the conclusion of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Iraola had his side in the running for European qualification throughout the Premier League campaign and recorded Bournemouth’s highest ever points tally (57) in a top-flight campaign.
Bournemouth also ended the season by stringing together an 18-match unbeaten run stretching back to the 3rd January where they tasted defeat against Premier League champions Arsenal.
German manager Marco Rose has agreed to take charge at the Vitality Stadium for the 2026/27 Premier League season.
Rose has enjoyed a successful few years in the Bundesliga, taking charge of clubs such as RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach.
Overall, these two clubs have gone head to head in a competitive fixture in all competitions on a total of 25 occasions, and it is City who have the superior record of 22 victories compared with the Cherries’ record of 1 overall. City has drawn with Bournemouth on 3 occasions to date.
