FA Cup Quarter Final
Fixture Date – Saturday 4th April 2026
Kick-off – 3pm
Etihad Stadium, Manchester
Two heavyweights of the Premier League are set to meet face-to-face when Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City take on Arne Slot’s Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the 2025/26 FA Cup at the iconic Etihad Stadium in April 2026. The Cityzens will be looking to seal what would be a statement triumph against the Reds to reach the semi-finals.
This season, City are going to be looking to get their hands on this famous, illustrious, and historic trophy for the 8th time in their trophy-laden history. It would be their first victory in an FA Cup Final since doing so at Wembley back in the 2022/23 season, when they beat their local, cross-city rivals, Manchester United, 2 –1 in the English Capital.

Manchester City, who are led by their current Head Coach Pep Guardiola, are going to be taking on fellow Premier League heavyweights in the form of Arne Slot’s Liverpool side in the much-anticipated and high-profile Quarter Finals of the 2025/26 FA Cup in April 2026 at the iconic Etihad Stadium.
The Cityzens will be hoping to emerge victorious from the Etihad Stadium in what would be a statement triumph for the team, whilst also taking them within a step of the Final at Wembley in May, with qualification for the Semi-Finals.
So far, as of the time of writing, Manchester City have so far won the iconic and historic FA Cup competition on a grand total of 7 occasions, with only Spurs (8), Liverpool (8), Chelsea (8), Manchester United (13), and Arsenal (14) having won it more.
Their most recent FA Cup triumph came when the Cityzens were able to beat their cross-city rivals Manchester United 2 – 1, thanks to a brace from Ilkay Gundogan, either side of half-time back in June 2023 (1’, 51’). Bruno Fernandes was the only goal scorer from the penalty spot to equalise, initially, midway through the first half (33’).
City’s other 6 FA Cup Final triumphs took place in 1903/04 (1 – 0 vs. Bolton), 1933/34 (2 – 1 vs. Portsmouth), 1955/56 (3 – 1 vs. Birmingham City), 1968/69 (1 – 0 vs. Leicester City), 2010/11 (1 – 0 vs. Stoke City), and 2018/19 (6 – 0 vs. Watford).
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City began their latest FA Cup journey with a Third Round tie against League One’s Exeter City who they were able to beat 10 – 1 at the Etihad Stadium thanks to the goals of Max Alleyne (12’), Rodri (24’), Jake Doyle-Hayes (42’, OG), Jack Fitzwater (45+2’ – OG), Rico Lewis (49’, 90+1’), Antoine Semenyo (54’), Tijjani Reijnders (71’), Nico O’Reilly (79’), and finally Ryan McAidoo (86’).
George Birch was the only goal scorer for the visiting Grecians, with the midfielder scoring his first senior goal with a spectacular strike late on in the game in the second half (90’).
Then came the Fourth Round of this season’s FA Cup competition, when Manchester City were to come up against League Two’s Salford City, who they were able to beat 2 – 0 at the Etihad Stadium, thanks to an own goal from defender Alfie Dorrington (6’) and a first City goal for central defender Marc Guehi, who had not long joined the Cityzens from fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace (81’).
In Round Five, Pep Guardiola and City were drawn against fellow Premier League outfit Newcastle United, led by Head Coach Eddie Howe, at the iconic St. James’s Park. It was a 3 – 1 win for the visitors following goals from the likes of Savinho (39’) and Omar Marmoush (47’, 65’), who scored a brace in the second half. Harvey Barnes was the only goal scorer for the hosts, the Magpies, on that particular day in the first half (18’).
As for Liverpool, Arne Slot’s team are currently 8-time winners of the FA Cup, having most recently won this prestigious trophy back in 2022, when they were able to emerge as 6 – 5 winners against Chelsea on penalties after their tie at Wembley had ended in a 0 – 0 draw, with the stalemate continuing into extra time.
The other 7 previous FA Cup Final triumphs for the Reds came back in 1964/65 (2 – 1 vs. Leeds United), 1973/74 (3 – 0 vs. Newcastle United), 1985/86 (3 – 1 vs. Everton), 1988/89 (3 – 2 vs. Everton, AET), 1991/92 (2 – 0 vs. Sunderland), 2000/01 (2 – 1 vs. Arsenal), and 2005/06 (3 – 3, 3 – 1 on penalties vs. West Ham United.
Liverpool began their latest FA Cup campaign with a Third Round tie with League One side Barnsley, who are led by former Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane, at Anfield. It was a ruthless and emphatic 4 – 1 triumph for the hosting Reds side, who were able to score thanks to the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai (9’), Jeremie Frimpong (36’), Florian Wirtz (84’), and finally Hugo Ekitike (90+4’).
Midfielder Adam Phillips was the scorer of the only goal for the away side late on in the first half of this game (40’).
Then, in Round Four, Arne Slot’s Liverpool were able to beat a fellow Premier League club in the form of Fabian Hürzeler’s Brighton 3 – 0 thanks to the goals of Curtis Jones (42’), Dominik Szoboszlai (56’), and finally Mohamed Salah, who scored from the penalty spot in the second half (68’) at Anfield on that day.
Then, most recently, Liverpool faced relegation-threatened Wolves at Molineux in what was the fifth round of this season’s FA Cup. It was a comfortable and deserved 3 – 1 win for the Reds, which was thanks to the goals of Andrew Robertson (51’), Mohamed Salah (53’), and finally Curtis Jones (74’), all scoring in the second half. So did Hwang Hee-chan, who scored the only goal of the game for hosts Wolves deep into second-half stoppage time (90+2’). This sealed a high-profile tie in the Quarter Finals against City.
The last time Manchester City beat Liverpool in the FA Cup was on 7th February 1973, in a fourth-round replay at Maine Road. It was a 2 – 0 win for City thanks to the goals of Colin Bell and Tommy Booth.
All eyes will be on who will be victorious in this quarter-final tie in the 2025/26 FA Cup at the aforementioned Etihad Stadium, with the Cityzens looking to win some silverware this season.
