Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are set to go head-to-head with a Brighton side that is currently led by their German Head Coach Fabian Hürzeler at the iconic Etihad Stadium during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
A victory here against their South Coast counterparts would see them take what would be an important step closer to realising the club’s ambitions for the season, which is to dethrone reigning Champions Liverpool by regaining the title this term, and all three points against the Seagulls would help them do so whilst creating some more momentum going into the remainder of the season.
The incumbent Head Coach of Manchester City Football Club is, of course, Pep Guardiola, with the Spaniard having been in charge of the English Club ever since he officially took charge as Manuel Pellegrini’s successor at the Etihad Stadium ahead of the 2016/17 season. City confirmed Guardiola’s arrival on Monday, 1st February 2016, with his Chilean predecessor taking charge for the remainder of the 2015/16 season before leaving.
Last season (2024/25) saw Manchester City take part in yet another title race whilst under the stewardship of their current Head Coach Pep Guardiola, though they unfortunately did end up missing out on the glory of retaining the title yet again by finishing down in 3rd place and with as many as 71 points having been earned from their 38 games. Liverpool won the title with a total of 84 points, followed by runners-up Arsenal in second place.
Across his very successful and trophy-laden spell in charge of the Cityzens so far, Pep Guardiola has led them to as many as 18 trophies, as of the time of writing. These trophies include 6 Premier League titles (2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21, 2021/22/ 2022/23 & 2023/24), 2 FA Cups (2018/19 & 2022/23), 4 Carabao Cup titles (2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20 & 2020/21), 3 FA Community Shield titles (2018, 2019 & 2024), 1 UEFA Champions League title (2022/23), 1 UEFA Super Cup title (2023), and finally 1 FIFA Club World Cup (2023).
Moving on to Brighton, their German Head Coach, Fabian Hürzeler, has been in charge at the club since his appointment by the South Coast Club on Saturday, 15th June 2024, replacing Roberto De Zerbi, who had left for French Club Marseille. He joined the club just months before the 2024/25 season began.
The 2024/25 season was his first full season in charge at this club, and it was a very solid season that saw them among the clubs that were fighting for European Football. They did, unfortunately for them, miss out on a spot in Europe for the 2025/26 season after recording what was an 8th-place finish last term after accumulating a grand total of no less than 61 points in the end. They had missed out on Europe by 4 points, with Nottingham Forest taking the final one in 7th place.
The last time these two clubs faced each other competitively in all competitions was in the Premier League, back on Saturday, 15th March 2025, in a hard-fought 2–2 draw at the Etihad Stadium. It was Erling Haaland (11’ – Penalty) and Omar Marmoush (39’) who ended up scoring the goals for the hosts, whilst the Seagulls were able to find the back of the City net through their Ecuadorian left back Pervis Estupinan (21’), with there also being an own goal from City defender Adbukodir Khusanov at the beginning of the second half (48’).
Overall, Manchester City and Brighton have met competitively in all competitions on no less than 34 occasions, and it is City who do have the superior record of as many as 21 wins in this fixture to date, whilst Brighton currently has 7 wins to their name against the Cityzens. There have been a total of 6 draws between these two clubs so far, as of the time of writing.
