Premier League 2023/24
Fixture Date – Saturday, 7 October 2023
Kick-off – 3pm
Old Trafford, Manchester
Manchester United welcome Brentford to Old Trafford for this 2023/24 Premier League fixture. Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United are set to face a Brentford side led by their Danish Head Coach Thomas Frank at Old Trafford in the 2023/24 Premier League season. The Red Devils will look to build a strong challenge for the league title whilst also securing Champions League football. Frank’s Bees will look to go one step further than last season and qualify for European football. With history on the side of United, it will be an uphill task for Thomas Frank to guide his troops to victory, and new Man United manager Erik ten Hag will know the importance of winning your home games if you want to mount a serious challenge for the title of Premier League Champions 2023/24. Hag will see this as a winnable game and will want all 3 points as United look to re-establish themselves to their former glory and claim the title as champions for the 14th time.

Manchester United will welcome Brentford to Old Trafford once more in the 2023/24 Premier League season. A title challenge and securing Champions League football will be high on the list of priorities for Head Coach Erik Ten Hag this season, whilst Frank’s Bees side will want to secure European football after narrowly failing to do so last season (2022/23).
After his experiences with Go Ahead Eagles (2012 – 2013), Bayern Munich II (2013 – 2015) and Utrecht (2015 – 2017), Erik Ten Hag was chosen to take charge at Dutch Giants Ajax, where he succeeded Marcel Keizer. Over the course of his 5 years spell in charge of the club, he won a total of 6 trophies: 3 Eredivisie titles (2018/19, 2020/21 & 2021/22), 2 KNVB Cups (2018/19 & 2020/21) and he Johan Cruyff Shield in 2019.
One of the Dutchman’s finest achievements during his time with Ajax was beating Real Madrid 4-1 and Juventus 2-1 on the way to the Champions League Semi-Final in 2019, where they were unlucky to be knocked out after the lost the tie on away goals with a 3-3 draw being played out over the two legs.
Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick had been in charge, respectively, on an interim basis; it was Ten Hag who permanently succeeded Ole Gunnar Solskjær at Old Trafford in April 2022. The 2022/23 season was the Dutch Head Coach’s first full season in charge of the Red Devils, and his team were able to finish as high as 3rd in the league with 75 points. Manchester United finished 3 places higher and 17 points better off than they were by the end of the 2021/22 Premier League season.
With 17 goals, Marcus Rashford was Manchester United’s top goal scorer in the Premier League last term, with Portugal international Bruno Fernandes second in the Red Devils’ goal-scoring charts with 8 to his name. Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho got 6 goals each.
Following Dean Smith’s departure to Aston Villa on 16th October 2018, Thomas Frank went on to take over as his permanent successor at the Bees and by the end of the 2018/19 season, the club finished 11th in the Championship table. Unfortunately for Brentford, they lost 2-1 to Fulham in the Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley in the following season after a 3rd place finish.
The Bees finished 3rd once again at the end of the 2020/21 season, where they were this time able to secure promotion to the Premier League after beating Swansea City 2-0 in the final under the arch at Wembley Stadium.
Brentford comfortably avoided immediate relegation back to the Championship in the 2021/22 season, finishing 13th with an 11-point gap between themselves and the Premier League’s bottom three. Last season, they did even better, finishing 9th with 59 points to narrowly miss out on qualification for European football.
Brentford’s leading goal scorer in the Premier League last season with 20 goals was Ivan Toney. Bryan Mbeumo came 2nd in the club’s goal-scoring charts with 9 goals, whilst Yoane Wissa and Denmark’s Mathias Jensen got 7 and 5 goals, respectively.
Manchester United and Brentford’s first competitive meeting came on 14th January 1928 in an FA Cup 3rd Round tie at Old Trafford, where United were emphatic 7-1 winners. It is the Red Devils with the superior record in this fixture, with 9 wins out of their 17 encounters in total, whereas the Bees have 6 wins against United as of the time of writing. There have been just 2 draws in this fixture to date.
The most recent match to have taken place between these two teams took place on 5th April 2023, where Manchester United won 1-0 in the Premier League at Old Trafford, with Marcus Rashford getting the only goal at the midway point of the first half (27’).
