Manchester United, who are led by their Head Coach Michael Carrick, are set to go toe to toe with Keith Andrews’ Brentford side at the iconic and historic Old Trafford, which is located in the heart of the City of Manchester. This game takes place during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
If the Red Devils do get the better of the Bees with all three points, then this victory against their West London counterparts would see the club take a step closer to realising their ambitions for the current campaign, which are to qualify for European Football with a top seven finish in the Premier League once all 38 games have been played. A win against Brentford will also provide United with fresh momentum going into their next few games in all competitions.
Michael Carrick, the current boss at United, has been back at the club as Head Coach since his appointment on a contract until the end of the 2025/26 season, back on 13th January 2026. He joins following the departure of his predecessor Ruben Amorim back on Monday 5th January 2026.
Carrick did of course spend 12 years of his playing career at United between 2006 and 2018. He has then gone on to have a career in coaching, which includes a previous spell in charge of the club, with him being Manchester United’s Caretaker Manager in 2021 following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He left following the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim Head Coach for the remained of the 2021/22 campaign in December that year.
Following his departure from United, he was appointed as Middlesbrough boss back on 24th October 2022, with him joining the EFL Championship club with the side stuck in a relegation battle.
Then, in the weeks that followed, he won 16 of his first 23 games in charge, which was enough for what was a 4th place finish with 75 points which was enough for the play-offs where they went on to lose to Coventry over two legs in the semi-finals.
Then in the 2023/24 campaign, his first full season in charge, Carrick guided them to an 8th place finish before then departing after ending up in 10th place at the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
Moving on to Brentford, their Irish Head Coach, Keith Andrews, has been in charge ever since he was promoted to the role from set-piece coach following Thomas Frank’s departure for Spurs. His appointment was officially confirmed by the Bees back on Friday 27th June 2025. The 2025/26 campaign will be his first full season in charge.
The 2024/25 campaign for Brentford was led by their now-former Head Coach Thomas Frank, who guided them to a successful season that saw them among the challengers for European Football. However, they did end up finishing outside of the European places in 10th place with a total of 56 points, which was 9 points adrift of the top seven overall, in the end.
The last time that United were victorious in a competitive fixture against Brentford in all competitions was at Old Trafford was in a Premier League fixture back on Saturday 19th October 2024. This was a 2 – 1 win at the Theatre of Dreams for United, who scored their goals thanks to the likes of Alejandro Garnacho (47’) and Rasmus Hojlund (62’) in the second half. Brentford’s only goal of the game saw them take what would be a short lived lead through Ethan Pinnock in first half stoppage time (45+5’).
Overall, Manchester United and Brentford have met competitively in all competitions on 22 occasions, and it is United who currently hold the superior record, with 11 victories against their West London counterparts, while the Bees have beaten the Red Devils 8 times to date. There have also been just 3 draws between these two clubs so far, as of the time of writing.
