Manchester United, who are led by Head Coach Michael Carrick, are set to welcome Sean Dyche’s Nottingham Forest side to the iconic and historic Old Trafford, located in the heart of the City of Manchester, during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
If the Red Devils can emerge with what would be a crucial victory against Forest, then it would see them take a significant step closer to realising their ambitions for the current campaign, which is to secure themselves a return to European Football, which they can achieve with a top seven finish in the Premier League. United will want to win their last home game of the season.
Current United boss Michael Carrick joined the club as Head Coach until the conclusion of the 2025/26 season with the former United player’s appointment being confirmed back on 13th January 2026. He replaced Ruben Amorim, with his Portuguese predecessor leaving the club a short time before his appointment on Monday 5th January 2026.
Carrick was a player at United for 12 years between 2006 and 2018, and not only he that, he did previously get appointed as caretaker manager at the club in 2021 following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He then left with the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as the interim Head Coach of the club in December of that year.
After departing his role at Manchester United, Michael Carrick was appointed as the brand new First Team Head Coach at Championship side Middlesbrough, who he joined back on 24th October 2022 with Boro fighting against relegation.
An upturn in form then quickly followed, with Carrick winning 16 of his first 23 games in charge of the club, guiding them well away from the relegation zone and up to 4th place with 75 points, which was enough for them to qualify for the play-offs, where they were knocked out by Coventry in the semi-finals.
He then finished in 8th place with them in the 2023/24 season before then leaving Boro following the conclusion of the 2024/25 campaign after a 10th place finish.
Moving on to Nottingham Forest, their English Head Coach Sean Dyche replaced Ange Postecoglou, who had been in charge ever since he was appointed to replace Nuno Espirito Santo in the City Ground hot seat back on Tuesday 9th September 2025.
Last season (2024/25), they were the surprise package in the Premier League, with them going from fighting against relegation to successfully securing European Football, ending up with a very creditable 7th place finish in the table in the end, with them having earned a total of no less than 65 points in order to qualify for European Football. They were just 1 point adrift of the UEFA Champions League places in the end, as well.
Dyche is best known in the Premier League for previously taking charge of the likes of Burnley and Everton, with the former having experienced its best ever season with him in charge. Burnley were able to qualify for the UEFA Europa League via the Second Qualifying Round after they were able to end up with what was a 7th place finish in the 2017/18 Premier League season.
Overall, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest have met competitively in all competitions on at 115 occasions. The Red Devils currently hold the superior record in this fixture, with 54 wins to their name against Forest, while their East Midlands counterparts have 36 victories against the Red Devils so far. There have been 25 draws between these two clubs so far, as of the time of writing.
