Manchester United v Leeds United – Premier League 2026/27
Manchester United and Leeds United renew one of English football’s most famous rivalries when the two clubs meet at Old Trafford in May 2027.
The rivalry has deep historical roots, traditionally associated with the Lancashire-Yorkshire divide and the Wars of the Roses. On the football pitch, it became particularly intense during the 1960s and 1970s when Manchester United and Leeds regularly competed for major domestic honours under Sir Matt Busby and Don Revie.
That rivalry has remained strong even during periods when the clubs have competed in different divisions, adding extra significance whenever Manchester United and Leeds meet in the Premier League.
Manchester United enter the 2026/27 season looking to build on their third-place Premier League finish and return to the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League under permanent Head Coach Michael Carrick.
Carrick made an impressive impact after initially taking charge on an interim basis, winning 12 of his first 17 matches as United finished the previous campaign with 71 points and secured Champions League qualification.
Bruno Fernandes remains one of United’s key attacking influences, supported by the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. Goalkeeper Senne Lammens also impressed, recording eight clean sheets in 32 appearances.
Leeds United enjoyed an encouraging campaign following their return to the Premier League, recovering from an early relegation battle to finish the season just six points short of the European places.
The Whites also reached the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley, where they were narrowly beaten by Chelsea following an Enzo Fernández winner.
Ethan Ampadu, Anton Stach and England international Dominic Calvert-Lewin were among Leeds’ influential performers as Daniel Farke’s side established themselves back in the top flight. Leeds will now look to build on that progress and challenge further up the Premier League table.
Manchester United v Leeds United Head-to-Head Record
Manchester United and Leeds United have met in 115 competitive fixtures across all competitions, with Manchester United recording 50 victories, Leeds United winning 27 and the remaining 38 matches ending in draws.
