Two rivals are set to go head to head when Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United take on a Leeds United side currently led by their German Head Coach Daniel Farke at the iconic and historic Old Trafford, located in the heart of the City of Manchester. This game takes place during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
If United do go on to get the better of Leeds in this game, this crucial victory against their Yorkshire counterparts would see them successfully take an important step closer to realising their ambitions for this season, which are to successfully seal their spot back in Europe by the end of the current campaign. Victory would also add fresh momentum for the team going into their next few games in all competitions.
Ruben Amorim is, of course, the current Head Coach of Manchester United Football Club, and the Portuguese has been in charge of the Red Devils ever since his tenure at the club began back on Monday 11th November 2024. This came a short time after his appointment to replace Erik Ten Hag was confirmed officially on Friday 1st November. The 2025/26 season will be his first full campaign with the club.
Amorim began his time at United at around the halfway point of the 2024/25 season. By the time that all 38 games had been played in the Premier League, they found themselves finishing in 15th place in the English Top Flight after they were able to accumulate a total of 42 points in the end.
They did manage to end the campaign on a high after beating Unai Emery’s Aston Villa 2 – 0 at Old Trafford thanks to goals from the likes of Amad Diallo (76’) and Christian Eriksen (87’), with the latter scoring from the penalty spot.
Moving on to Leeds United, their German Head Coach Daniel Farke has been in charge ever since he took over from his predecessor Sam Allardyce back on Tuesday 4th July 2023. In his debut season in charge, he led them all the way to the 2024 EFL Championship Play-Off Final, where they lost out on promotion to Southampton after losing 1 – 0 at Wembley on that day.
Then came last season (2024/25), where this time they did not need the promotion play-offs in their quest for promotion, with Farke’s Leeds side winning the second tier title after ending up at the summit of the EFL Championship table with as many as 100 points being accumulated after their 46 matches in the league. They won it on goal difference ahead of Burnley, who finished in second place overall.
The last time that these two clubs met face to face in a competitive fixture in all competitions was in the Premier League back on Sunday 12th February 2023 at Elland Road, where Manchester United were able to come away with what was a comfortable and deserved 2 – 0 victory against Leeds thanks to goals from the likes of Marcus Rashford (80’) and Alejandro Garnacho (85’) late on in the second half.
Overall, Manchester United and Leeds United have met competitively in all competitions on no less than 113 occasions, and it is the Red Devils who do have what is currently the superior record of as many as 50 victories against their Yorkshire rivals. In contrast, Leeds themselves currently have 26 wins to their name against their Manchester counterparts so far. There have also been 37 draws between these two clubs to date, as of the time of writing.
