Premier League club West Ham United, who are led by their Portuguese Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo, will be taking on Julien Stéphan’s Queens Park Rangers who compete in the Championship, in the Third Round of the 2025/26 FA Cup in the heart of the English Capital at the London Stadium, with the Hammers looking to take a step closer to the Final at Wembley Stadium in May 2026.
West Ham have enjoyed great success in the world’s oldest domestic cup competition over the years, whilst QPR have not yet lifted this famous trophy as of yet.
Starting with the Hammers, they have so far won the FA Cup three times. Their maiden triumph was back in 1964, where they managed to get the better of Preston North End, who they were able to beat 3 – 2 thanks to the goals of John Sissons (11’), Geoff Hurst (52’), and Ronnie Boyce (90’), whilst it was Doug Holden (10’) and Alex Dawson (40’) who both scored the goals for Preston at Wembley that day.
Their next FA Cup win came in 1975, 11 years on from their first victory. West Ham were 2 – 0 winners against Fulham thanks to a brace from Alan Taylor in quick succession, midway through the second half at Wembley Stadium (60’, 64’).
Finally, the most recent FA Cup Final victory for West Ham came in 1980, again at Wembley. This time, they were to defeat the reigning Champions Arsenal 1 – 0 thanks to a winning goal from club legend Trevor Brooking early on in the first half (13’).
West Ham have also reached two further finals, finishing as runners-up. They were back in the 1923 and 2006 Finals, where they lost 2–0 to Bolton Wanderers and 3–1 on penalties to Liverpool, respectively.
Moving on to Queens Park Rangers, whilst they have never won the FA Cup in their history so far, QPR have reached the FA Cup Final, doing so on just one occasion, to date, back in 1982 against fellow London Club Tottenham Hotspur, losing 1 – 0 in a replay at Wembley following a winning goal from Glenn Hoddle via the penalty spot less than ten minutes into the game.
The original final tie had ended in a 1 – 1 draw, with the aforementioned Glenn Hoddle (110’) and Terry Fenwick (115’) both scoring goals for their respective sides in extra time.
West Ham and QPR have met on a number of occasions in the FA Cup’s history, most recently on Saturday, 28th January 1995, where the Rs were 1 – 0 winners at Loftus Road thanks to a winning goal from Andy Impey early in the first half (20’).
All eyes will be on who will be victorious in this Third Round tie in the 2025/26 FA Cup at the aforementioned London Stadium, with the Hammers looking to win some prestigious silverware this season.
