East London’s West Ham United and North London’s Spurs are set to meet at the London Stadium in the 2024/25 Premier League season. If Graham Potter’s Hammers side does emerge to claim all three points in this fixture, they will earn the local bragging rights and be closer to realising their objectives for this season.
Graham Potter was unveiled as the successor to his Spanish counterpart Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium back on Thursday 9th January 2025.
Potter’s has had a successful career in senior club management to date, and his first job was with Swedish Club Ostersund, with whom he enjoyed great success over the course of his seven year spell there, which was from 2011 to 2018. He successfully guided the club to three promotions in a spectacular rise up the Swedish Football Pyramid. The English Head Coach took them all the way from the fourth tier to the Allsvenskan, which is the top flight for football in Sweden.
Not only that he also led Ostersund to the the Final of the Svenska Cupen in the 2016/17 season, which is the Swedish version of the highly prestigious FA Cup in English Football. They were able to emerge with an emphatic to a 4 – 1 victory against Norrkoping, which saw them successfully secure qualification for the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League in sensational fashion. They would go on to be eliminated over two legs by Arsenal in the Round of 32.
After a short but successful stint with Swansea City from 2018 to 2019, Potter was appointed by Premier League Club Brighton after the dismissal of Chris Hughton. In his three year spell with the South Coast club between 2019 and 2022, he led them to a first ever victory against Manchester United in their entire history, whilst also battling on a consistent basis for European Football. Potter also led them to their best ever Premier League points total of 51 points to secure a 9th place finish – the previous record had been beaten by no less than 10 points.
Then followed a short stint at Chelsea, taking charge of the West London Club from 8th September 2022 to 2nd April 2023.
Moving on to Spurs, their current Head Coach, Ange Postecoglou, the first Greek-born Manager in the Premier League’s history, took charge of the North London Club on June 6, 2023, just before the start of last season. He became the first new manager in the Premier League to win two Manager of the Month awards in his first two months in charge.
The Australian Boss managed to lead his Tottenham team to a 5th-place finish with a grand total of 66 points, qualifying for the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League. They did, however, miss out on a place in this season’s UEFA Champions League to Aston Villa by a margin of just 2 points in the end.
These two clubs have gone head to head in all competitions a total of 223 times, and Tottenham Hotspur has the superior record of 101 wins compared to the Hammers’ record of 67 in total to date. And, as of the time of writing, there have been 55 draws between these two teams.
West Ham United v Spurs are set to go toe to toe at the London Stadium in the 2024/25 Premier League season. This game is set to be intense, highly competitive, and enthralling, with an incredible atmosphere at the London Stadium.
