Wolves, who are currently under the stewardship of their Portuguese Head Coach Vitor Pereira, are set to welcome Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United side to the iconic and historic Molineux Stadium during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Suppose Pereira’s Wolves side can get the better of the Magpies. In that case, they will be taking a crucial step closer to realising their ambitions for the current campaign, which are to finish mid-table, whilst also potentially pushing for a place in the top half of the table by the time that the current season comes to a close in May 2026.
It is, of course, the aforementioned Vitor Pereira who is the current Head Coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club. He has been in charge ever since the Portuguese was appointed to replace Gary O’Neil in the Molineux dugout on Thursday, 19th December 2024.
Over the course of his first few months in charge, which took place at the back end of last season (2024/25), Vitor was tasked with guiding his new side to safety, whilst also climbing as high as possible in the table. In the end, they finished in 16th place, having earned a total of 42 points from their 38 matches overall. They ended up with a 17 point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.
The much-anticipated 2025/26 Premier League campaign will be his first full season in charge at the club.
So far, there have been several great results for Wolves in all competitions since the appointment of Pereira in late 2024, with one of the most memorable games being one against Spurs towards the end of last season, which ended in a 4 – 2 win for Wolves against Spurs at Molineux.
The goal scorers for the hosts in this game for the Old Gold were Rayan Ait-Nouri (2’), Jorgen Strand Larsen (64’), and Matheus Cunha (86’), whilst there was also an own goal from Spurs defender Djed Spence just before half time (38’). Meanwhile, the Spurs players who were able to find the back of the Wolves’ net were the likes of forwards Mathys Tel (59’) and Richarlison (85’), who both scored their goals in the second half of the game.
Moving on to Newcastle United, their English Head Coach Eddie Howe has been in charge of the Magpies ever since he took over from his predecessor Steve Bruce at St. James’s Park back on Monday, 8th November 2021.
Since then, the North East Club has transformed, having qualified for the highly coveted and prestigious UEFA Champions League on two occasions, while also leading them to their first major trophy in 56 years.
Newcastle first qualified for the Champions League under Howe during the 2022/23 Premier League season, finishing in 4th place with a total of 71 points from 38 games. They then secured qualification for a place in European Club Football’s Premier Cup Competition for the second time last season (2024/25), when a 5th place finish was enough after they had earned a total of 66 points. They did so on goal difference ahead of Aston Villa in the end.
As for major silverware, the Magpies won the 2025 Carabao Cup Final at the iconic and historic Wembley Stadium back on Sunday, 16th March 2025, when they were able to get the better of Arne Slot’s Liverpool side, who they were able to beat 2 – 1 under that famous arch. The goal scorers for Newcastle were Dan Burn (45’) and Alexander Isak (52’), whilst it was Italian international forward Federico Chiesa who was able to score what was the only goal for the Reds on that day (90+4’).
Overall, Wolves and Newcastle United have met competitively in all competitions on at least 109 occasions, and it is the Old Gold who have so far achieved a superior record, with as many as 42 victories in this fixture, compared with the Magpies’ current total of 37 wins against their Midlands counterparts. There have also been 30 draws between these two teams to date, as of the time of writing.
