The Genesis Scottish Open returns to the Renaissance Club in North Berwick for a fourth consecutive year, and fans of the sport can expect to see high-quality golfing in 2023.
The Renaissance Club is ideally located 33km east of Edinburgh, a characteristic city that has a rich history revolving around Scotland’s Royal Family. There is also plenty of free parking on-site for those travelling to the Genesis Scottish Open from far and wide.
The Genesis Scottish Open was established in 1972 and is typically held the week before the historic Open Championship, with many golfers treating the tournament as the warm-up for that major.
The player who has won the Scottish Open the most is Wales’ Ian Woosnam, who has won this tournament a total of 3 times. His first came in 1987, when he emerged victorious after beating Australia’s Peter Senior by 7 strokes.
His second, in 1990, saw him beat Mark McNulty by 4 strokes on the King’s Course at Gleneagles. Woosnam’s third came 6 years later in 1996, where he was able to beat Andrew Coltart by 4 strokes.
Once again, the Genesis Scottish Open will be co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour – increasing its profile even further. It already attracts some of the world’s finest golf players, including the likes of Bernd Wiesberger, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Francesco Molinari.
The most recent Genesis Scottish Open in 2023 saw Rory McIlroy win this championship for the first time in his illustrious career. It was by a narrow margin, finishing a single shot ahead of Robert McIntyre, who had to second place. McIlroy finished 15 under par compared to MacIntyre’s 14 under par.
After an enthralling and competitive tournament, McIlroy had the opportunity to win the title on the 18th hole. The Northern Irishman, of course, managed to do just that, taking victory with an incredible birdie to round off what was a fabulous performance from McIlroy across the four days.
Now, in 2024 The Northern Irishman is set to return to the Renaissance Club to compete in this year’s Genesis Scottish Open where he will hope to defend his title.
Rory McIlroy is no stranger to success, having won four major titles in his career to date. After winning the 2011 US Open in 2011, he won his second major in the 2012 PGA Championship at the Kiawah Island Gold Resort, winning by a margin of 13 under par.
He then won the Open Championship in July 2014 after finishing at 17 under par. Then, he followed this success up with a win in the PGA Championship in August 2014 – he was 16 under par by the end of that tournament.

Where does the Genesis Scottish Open take place?
The 2024 Genesis Scottish Open will take place at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland.
Where can I enter the venue?
The entrance gates are in two locations. The main entrance is just off Cowden Hill Drive, but the entrance for spectators is from the nearby public car park that leads onto the Championship Village.
Where facilities are available for disabled spectators?
There are mobility scooters available to hire. If you want to hire a manual wheelchair, this will cost £10, and if you want an electric scooter, this will cost £30. There are also dedicated viewing platforms in three locations: Holes 2, 6 and 13. Guide dogs are allowed.
As a spectator, when can I enter the venue for the Genesis Scottish Open?
Spectators are allowed to watch the pro-am (Professional and amateur) event from 7:30am on Wednesday 6th July, which is the day before the Open starts. When the Genesis Scottish Open is underway, gates will open to spectators at 7am (except Sunday which will be 8am) and the gates will then close at 7:30pm.
