Goodwood Festival Day Two Review

French Duke

Day Two saw more thrilling racing action take place at Glorious Goodwood in front of an incredible crowd.

The 2024 Qatar Goodwood Festival is now very much underway with two days of enthralling action having taken place at Glorious Goodwood, with a number of superb races have taken place at the iconic and historic Goodwood Racecourse. Here, we are going to review the action from all seven races on Wednesday afternoon.

It was the Coral Daily Rewards Shaker Handicap which opened the action on the second day, and the pre-race favourite French Duke, ridden by Jockey James Doyle and trained by Roger Varian, was most certainly able to meet expectations with the win in this race with Lord Of Love and Gallantly having to settle for a second and third place finish in the end.

Then came the latest renewal of the Visit Qatar Oak Tree Stakes. It was Jim Crowley on board Raqiya who came out on top as the winner of this race after successfully fending off some stern competition from James Doyle on pre-race favourite Jabaara, who came in second place. It was Kieran O’Neill’s Ziggy’s Dream who rounded off the top three in third place. It was a win that came with some controversy, with Raqiya’s win being confirmed following a tense wait whilst a steward’s inquiry took place.

Race three then came in the form of the 2024 Jaeger-Lecoultre Molecomb Stakes at three o’clock on Wednesday afternoon. Just like in the race that came before it, the pre-race favourite narrowly missed out on victory, with Aesterius having to settle for a second place finish after losing out to winner Big Mojo, who was led to victory by Jockey Silvestre De Sousa. Mr Lightside came in third.

The Qatar Sussex Stakes came next, with the fourth race of the day seeing the pre-race favourite finish outside of the top three. An Aidan O’Brien trained Henry Longfellow had Jockey Ryan Moore on board, but they ended up with a fourth place finish after being tipped for the win before the race. Instead, it was William Buick on board Notable Speech who was victorious followed by Tom Marquand’s Maljoom as the runner-up and Facteur Cheval in third.

It was the third to last race of day two that then came next in the form of the 2024 British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap. Hector Crouch rode Al Anoud to victory ahead of pre-race favourite Power Of Destiny as runner-up in second place, with Warda Jamila rounding off the top three after coming in third place in the end.

The 2024 renewal of the British Stallion Studs EBF Alice Keppel Fillies’ Conditions Stakes, which was the penultimate race of day two at Glorious Goodwood on Wednesday afternoon. Harry Davies was able to ride Coto De Caza, who was the pre-race favourite, to victory ahead of Storm Call and Blue Zodiac in second and third place respectively. The margin of victory in the end stood at two and a half lengths.

Then, to bring the action on day two to a close, the HKJC World Pool Handicap took place on Wednesday evening as the seventh and final race of proceedings at Goodwood Racecourse. David Probert’s Blue Prince was the last winner of the day, finishing in front following some stern competition from pre-race favourite Billyjoh and Racingbreaks Ryder, who filled out the remainder of the top three in second and third place respectively. Miss Information came in 4th.
