Matilda: The Musical – Cambridge Theatre – London Theatre West End Tickets & Hospitality Packages
Matilda the musical has been critically acclaimed ever since it first graced the stage of the iconic Cambridge Theatre in London’s West End in 2011. It has now returned for months of performances lasting until May 2024. It was first performed at the Courtyard Theatre in 2010 before getting it’s West End debut a year later.
The Cambridge Theatre has a long history, first opening its doors all the way back in 1930. Fast forward to 1984, it went through some major renovations before a musical called ‘The Magic Castle’ was staged there. ‘Return To The Forbidden Planet’, which won an Olivier Award for Best Musical, was performed here between 1989 and 1992.
With all of the critical acclaim that it has received over the years, it is no surprise that it has won it’s fair share of awards. These awards include: a UK Theatre Award for Best Musical Production, a Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical, a Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Best Musical, a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical and a Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
There was a film adaptation of the musical released on Netflix on Friday 25th November 2022 featuring a cast full of famous faces including the likes of Emma Thompson, Lashana Lynch, Stephen Graham and Sindhu Vee.
Matilda The Musical is set to be performed at the Cambridge Theatre over a number of months, with the last performance taking place on Sunday 26th May 2024.
The original cast who performed Matilda at the Cambridge Theatre in 2011 included: Cleo Demetriou/Eleanor Worthington-Cox/Kerry Ingram/Sophia Kiely (Matilda), Bertie Carvel (Miss Trunchbull), Lauren Ward (Miss Honey), Paul Kaye (Mr. Wormwood), Josie Walker (Mrs. Wormwood) & Melanie La Barrie (Mrs. Phelps).
The 2023 cast includes: Victoria Alsina/Sophia Goodman/Maisie Mardle/Laurel Sumberg/Heidi Williams (Matilda), Elliot Harper (Miss Trunchbull), Lauren Byrne (Miss Honey), Rakesh Boury (Mr. Wormwood), Amy Ellen Richardson (Mrs. Wormwood) & Landi Oshinowo (Mrs. Phelps).
