£1.6m Up for Grabs at York Dante Festival as Legacy Link and Aramram Head Strong Contenders List
The 2026 Dante Festival at York Racecourse will see £1.6 million in prize money up for grabs across three days on the Knavesmire, with several standout names already shaping up as leading contenders for the key races.
The Musidora Stakes is one of the most valuable prizes of the meeting, worth £130,000 in total and offering £73,723 to the winner. All eyes will be on Legacy Link, trained by John and Thady Gosden, who is strongly fancied to confirm the promise she showed last season. She was finishing strongly in the Fillies’ Mile and is expected to appreciate the step up in trip, with connections having long viewed her as a potential Classic filly.
Wednesday’s feature comes in the £165,000 Minster Stakes, where £93,752 is on offer to connections of the winner. Aramram, trained by Richard Hannon, arrives in solid form after a string of progressive performances, including a win over Jasour and a strong second in the Abernant at Newmarket. With Sean Levey booked, he looks well placed to run a big race if continuing his upward trajectory.
In the supporting handicaps, Klassleader represents William Haggas in the Sky Bet Race To The Ebor Jorvik Handicap and is expected to improve significantly this season based on his limited but promising career to date. Stablemate Binhareer is another to note in the Churchill Tyres Handicap after a commanding course-and-distance win last autumn and looks capable of defying a 10lb higher mark if ready on return.
Across the entire meeting, York continues its push for higher-quality racing with every contest now worth at least £30,000, part of a wider £12.5 million prize money commitment for the 2026 season. That sustained investment has helped attract bigger fields and stronger entries, reinforcing the Dante Festival’s role as a key early-season test for Classic contenders and emerging handicappers alike.
With £1.6 million distributed over three days and several high-profile runners set to headline the action, the festival once again combines strong financial backing with competitive fields and potential future stars of the summer season.
