Jamie George to Headline the 36th Annual Midlands Sporting Luncheon
The announcement of Adger Brown adds to an already impressive line-up, with former England captain Jamie George confirmed as the Guest of Honour for this year’s event.
The Saracens hooker has enjoyed an outstanding career at the highest level of rugby, earning more than 100 international caps for England and representing the British & Irish Lions on three tours.
George has helped Saracens secure six Premiership titles and three European Champions Cups, while his international achievements include three Six Nations titles and the 2016 Grand Slam.
Having announced his intention to retire from professional rugby at the conclusion of the 2026/27 season, the 35-year-old will have plenty of experiences to reflect on as he approaches the final stages of his playing career.
Former England and British & Irish Lions international Tim Stimpson will return as Master of Ceremonies, leading a discussion with George about his career, memorable matches and experiences representing England and the Lions.
George follows an illustrious list of previous Guests of Honour at the Midlands Sporting Luncheon, including Martin Johnson, Brian O’Driscoll, Alun Wyn Jones, Jason Robinson, Mike Tindall and Dan Cole, who headlined the 2025 event.
A Christmas Sporting Tradition Returns to Birmingham
Now celebrating its 36th edition, the Annual Midlands Sporting Luncheon has become a popular fixture in Birmingham’s festive calendar, welcoming guests from across the region for an afternoon of rugby, comedy and Christmas entertainment.
The event was originally established by Greville Edwards, a prominent figure at Moseley Rugby Club, and has grown from its early beginnings into a well-established sporting occasion.
This year’s luncheon will take place in the Horton Suite at the Macdonald Burlington Hotel, conveniently situated opposite Birmingham New Street Station.
Guests will enjoy a four-course Christmas luncheon before Tim Stimpson takes to the stage to interview Jamie George about his distinguished rugby career. The afternoon’s entertainment will then conclude with a comedy performance from Adger Brown.
Charitable fundraising will once again form an important part of the occasion, with Prostate Cancer UK benefiting from the popular Heads or Tails game and live and silent auctions.
The 2025 Midlands Sporting Luncheon raised £10,000 for charitable causes, including £6,000 for Prostate Cancer UK and £4,000 for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
With the complete entertainment line-up now confirmed, preparations are well underway for another memorable Christmas sporting luncheon in Birmingham.
