Tyson Fury’s Next Opponent to Be Revealed This Week
Tyson Fury’s next opponent ahead of his clash against Anthony Joshua will be revealed this week.
Frank Warren, Fury’s long-term promoter, has confirmed that The Gypsy King would fight again before facing Anthony Joshua after the heavyweight beat Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April.
“We’ll hopefully be in a position to announce it next week, that’s what we’re looking to do,” Warren told Sky Sports.
“So keep watching this space, and it’ll be a good opponent – it’ll be good for him. He can’t afford to slip up, because obviously AJ’s got his fight in a few weeks’ time.
“[Joshua’s] got to come through that, Tyson has to come through his, and then the big one will be in November.”
Warren also confirmed that heavyweight sensation Moses Itauma will face a top-10-ranked fighter next, ahead of a potential world title shot.
“Moses [Itauma] is fighting up in Manchester, we’re going to announce it.
“He’s fighting a top 10 heavyweight, we expect to get the fight we want to make over the line. Again, a great heavyweight fight.
“This division is on fire.”
Warren, who is the boss of Queensbury Promotions, reflected on Saturday night’s fight between Oleksandr Usyk and novice boxer Rico Verhoeven.
“The fact is, with these [MMA] guys, you’ve got no form to study. It’s not like you’ve seen them in a [boxing] fight.
“When Ngannou fought Tyson, he hadn’t been in a professional boxing match.
“I look at Ngannou and Rico, they were champions of their respective sports, which means they were the best, means that they’re competitive, they’re strong, they’re winners, and they were there for a while.
“So you knew that they wouldn’t be lacking in heart. It was just about the ability and with Tyson, [Ngannou] did extremely well.
“He had Tyson on the floor, he clipped him, and I thought, with Rico, he hurt him a couple of times. He was catching him.”
