NFL: Seattle Seahawks win Super Bowl LX
A fantastic defensive performance proved crucial as the Seahawks secured their second Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday.
The showpiece occasion of the NFL season, the Super Bowl, took place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday, with the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks going toe to toe, with both sides looking to reclaim the trophy, with both having won it in years gone by. Ahead of the game, the Patriots had 6 to their name; meanwhile, the Seahawks had one Super Bowl to their name.
In the end, it was a very memorable game, where history was made. It was the Seattle Seahawks who, in the end, were able to secure what was a thoroughly deserved 13 – 29 win in Super Bowl LX to lift the highly prestigious trophy.
This was the first time they had done so since their maiden triumph in Super Bowl XLVIII back on 2nd February 2014 at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where they were able to defeat the Denver Broncos 43 – 8.
The Seahawks had managed to end the season with an incredible 14 – 3 record and were the NFC’s top seed. Not only that, in the game itself, they and the Patriots had been two of the best defensive sides over the course of the NFL season, but it was the side from Seattle who managed to overcome their opponents in emphatic style in the end.
It was not just a historic day for the Seattle Seahawks, it was a historic day for the NFL as well, with Seahawks’ defensive co-ordinator Aden Durde helping to mastermind his side’s triumph, becoming the first overseas coach to be on the winning team in what is the biggest sporting occasion in the United States.
It was an incredible defensive effort from the champions, who managed 6 sacks, 2 interceptions, 1 forced fumble and recovery, as well as 1 touchdown over the course of this fiercely contested NFL game. The Seahawks defence, organised by Durde, actually had the most feared defence in the NFL as a whole, becoming known as ‘the Dark Side’.
In the game itself, the Seahawks were leading 9 – 0 at the half-time break. In the early stages of the fourth quarter, Quarterback Drake Maye got his first turnover for the Patriots in what was the game’s opening touchdown after Maye had found AJ Barner with a brilliant pass.
It was not going to be enough, though, with Seattle Seahawks Linebacker Uchenna Nwosu returning an interception for what was a 45-yard touchdown, before his teammate Jason Myers kicked what was a record five field goals to claim victory. It was also a triumph that would deny their opponents their record seventh win in the Super Bowl.
Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Mike Macdonald had the following to say following his side’s triumph in the Super Bowl on Sunday (via BBC Sport and NBC): “We were the better team; we’re the best team. We loved each other, we believed in each other and now we’re champions.
“We went to the dark side tonight. We love our players – they made it happen. They made it come to life.”
There was a fantastic half-time show from the world-renowned artist Bad Bunny, whose performance delighted the crowd in Santa Clara, with the show also featuring performances from Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin.
Bad Bunny will soon be embarking on his much-anticipated DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS World Tour, which includes dates at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. His performances in North London will take place across two nights, from Saturday 27th June to Sunday 28th June 2026.
