Over the years, Scotland and its rival, Ireland, have gone head-to-head competitively in all competitions to date. Overall, they have faced each other 143 times, and it is the latter with a superior record of 66 victories, compared with Scotland’s total of 72 so far.
Scotland’s longest run of victories over Ireland took place over 11 games between 18th February 1882 and 18th February 1893. More recently, they did win 10 of their 11 encounters between 4th March 1989 and 20th March 1999, drawing 1.
At Murrayfield, Scotland’s most emphatic victory over Ireland was back on 1st March 1997, winning by a margin of 28 points when they secured what was a ruthless 38 – 10 win in Edinburgh that year.
