Scotland v Wales Hospitality Packages – Guinness Six Nations 2025
As part of their campaign to improve on their creditable 4th-place finish in the most recent Guinness Six Nations, Scotland looks to beat Wales to climb the table. Wales will look to beat Gregor Townsend’s team to avoid being awarded the Wooden Spoon for the second successive year in the 2025 Championship.
After three years in charge, Vern Cotter was dismissed in favour for current Head Coach Gregor Townsend who took over as Head Coach for the Scottish national team in May 2017. He looks to try and win a first piece of silverware in what has been just over a decade in charge so far.
Scotland have won the Five Nations 5 times (1925, 1929, 1984, 1990, 1999), whilst also sharing that Championship’s title a further 6 times, in 1920, 1926, 1927, 1964, 1973 and in 1986. However, they are yet to win the Six Nations Championship as of the time of writing.
As for Wales, they have certainly been no strangers to winning the Guinness Six Nations, with 4 of them coming under the stewardship of Warren Gatland who led them to this immense success in his first stint in charge. Three of these were Grand Slams. Wales have won a total of 6 to their name, with the other two coming in 2005 and 2021.
As it stands, Scotland and Wales occupy spots in the upper reaches of the latest World Rugby rankings, with both nations having the honour of occupying spots in the top ten. With 77.26 points to their name, Wales sit 10th, and narrowly behind Australia in ninth place. As for Scotland, they are four places higher in 6th with a total of 82.82 points.
There have been a number of memorable encounters between these two great rivals over the years. One such moment took place in a 21 – 15 Scotland win at Murrayfield more than 35 years ago in 1987, and it saw Wales forced into a substitution that saw Stuart Evans make his debut. Unfortunately for Evans, he struggled in the game whilst loose-head David Sole was having a fantastic game. It was a chaotic affair that coined a famous exchange – the referee for that game had asked Wales Lock Bob Norster if he was happy with his team’s tight head prop, to which Norster replied: “You’re not happy? How do you think I feel?”.
The other particularly memorable moment that we are going to mention here happened in Cardiff in 1972. It was an emphatic 35 – 12 win, but the main reason why this game has been particularly memorable is because of Gareth Edward’s solo try. Edwards’ run began when he broke round the blindside of the scrum before negotiating a path beyond Roger Arneil before managing to go on to score the try despite his opponents applying enormous pressure onto him.
Overall, in all competitions, Scotland and Wales have come face to face on 130 occasions, with Wales winning the most to date with 75 as of the time of writing compared to Scotland’s 52. There have been just 3 draws between them in total.
Excitement and anticipation is building ahead of this famous rivalry being renewed in the 2025 Guinness Six Nations at the iconic Murrayfield Stadium on Saturday 8th March 2025 in what will be a 16:45 kick-off in Edinburgh.
