Davis Cup Hospitality Packages – Great Britain v Switzerland – Manchester AO Arena 2024
The AO Arena in Manchester is set to host the Davis Cup this year. Great Britain and Switzerland will go head to head, with both nations looking to challenge for the tournament win this year, with both having won this competition at least once over the years. The Davis Cup is one of the oldest tennis tournaments, beginning in 1900, with the United States the first-ever winner against Britain.
Starting with Great Britain they have won (together with France) the joint third most Davis Cups over the years, with ten overall as of the time of writing. They have won it in 1903, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1912, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1936 & their most recent win was in 2015. Great Britain got revenge on the United States in the 1903 tournament, winning 4 – 1. As for their most recent Davis Cup triumph in 2015, Great Britain beat Belgium 3-1 at the Flanders Expo in Ghent.
As for Switzerland, they won their first and currently only Davis Cup back in 2014 when they were 3-1 winners against France at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille.
These two nations have only met twice in the Davis Cup since 1981. The most recent encounter took place in Geneva in 2005, where Switzerland were 5-0 winners. This followed their maiden meeting in this tournament in 1985 when Great Britain were comfortable 3-0 winners against Switzerland in Eastbourne in September of that year.
Bobby Wilson holds numerous Davis Cup records for Great Britain, holding the record for the most ties played (34) and most doubles wins (25 – 8). Wilson and Mike Sangster, alongside Patrick Hughes and Fred Perry, are the joint-best Davis Cup doubles teams for Great Britain (11 – 3). Greg Rusedski has the record for most years played (13), whilst it is Bunny Austin with the most singles wins for Great Britain (36 – 12).
Roger Federer holds two records for Switzerland, with the most singles wins (52 – 18) and the most total wins (40 – 8). Together with Heinz Gunthardt, Federer holds the record for the joint record for most years played with 15. The Switzerland record for the best doubles team is jointly owned by Heinz Gunthardt/Markus Gunthardt & Jakob Hlasek/Marc Rosset (7 – 5).
