Premier League giants Arsenal will come face to face with Aston Villa in the 2024/25 Premier League season at the Emirates Stadium in North London. Mikel Arteta’s Gunners narrowly missed out on the title once again last term, and this year they will be even more determined to dethrone reigning Champions Manchester City. As for Villa, Unai Emery’s side surprised everyone by securing UEFA Champions League football thanks to a 4thplace finish last season.

Arsenal have made constant progress under the stewardship of their Spanish Head Coach Mikel Arteta. The former Everton and Arsenal midfielder succeeded the aforementioned Unai Emery as Head Coach in December 2019. In half a season, he managed to guide his side to a 5th place finish and a spot in the following season’s UEFA Europa League. He also won the FA Cup after beating London rivals Chelsea 2 – 1.

Arteta’s first full season in charge was in the 2022/23 campaign when they came 2nd, whilst also securing a return to the UEFA Champions League. Further silverware came in the form of the Community Shield, which was won after a 4 – 1 win on penalties against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

Arsenal finished in 2nd place last season after accumulating a total of 89 points from their 38 matches in all. After a 2 – 1 victory on the final day, the North London outfit ended their latest top flight campaign just two points adrift of title winners Manchester City.

Arteta’s side will be looking to go one step further this term, and Arsenal will be coming up against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium. The Spaniard succeeded Steven Gerrard in November 2022, and he has since led a revolution at Villa Park. A 7th place finish in 2022/23 was followed up with a 4th place finish and a spot in the UEFA Champions League the season after (2023/24).

Arsenal and Aston Villa have played against each other on a total of 203 occasions over the years. They first met in a league fixture on 8th October 1904, when a goal from William Henry Gooding secured a 1 – 0 win at the Manor Ground.

Overall, it is Arsenal who have the superior record of 87 wins compared to Villa’s total of 71 as of the time of writing. There have been a total of 45 draws between them in competitive fixtures to date.
