Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League, and the Gunners will be looking to win the title in the 2025/26 season. The Gunners will be coming face to face with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium in North London this season as they seek a crucially important three points.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners are looking to take the next step and become the Champions of England for the 14th time in their history and for the 4th time in the Premier League era. Last term, they finished as the league’s runners-up for the third consecutive season, and a win against the Villans would hand them a significant boost in their bid for glory.

In December 2019, Arteta became the permanent successor to Unai Emery at Arsenal, and in the 2022/23 season is when his side returned to being title challengers in the English top flight. In that season, they finished in second place with 84 points and only behind that season’s title winners Manchester City by a margin of just 5 points in the end.

The Gunners came even closer with Arteta in charge in the 2023/24 season when they finished behind City once again, but this time with a margin of only 2 points after earning a grand total of 89 points. This was followed by the 2024/25 Premier League season, where a total of 74 points was enough for yet another second place finish, missing out this time to Arne Slot and Liverpool.

Arsenal will be optimistic that they can dethrone reigning Premier League Champions Liverpool in the 2025/26 season, and all three points against Aston Villa would help their cause to do just that.

Unai Emery has been in charge of Aston Villa since his appointment to replace Steven Gerrard on 24th October 2022. By the end of the 2022/23 season, he had led them from a relegation battle to qualifying for European Football – the UEFA Conference League – via a 7th place finish.

Then in the 2023/24 season, Villa got to the Semi-Finals of the UEFA Conference League, after losing out on aggregate to eventual winners Olympiacos. In the Premier League, they finished in 4th place to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Last season, they memorably defeated Bayern Munich and got a second leg win against PSG as they reached the Quarter Finals of the Champions League where they were knocked out by the Parisians.

In the Premier League, it was a 6th place finish, missing out on the Champions League, but they did still qualify for the UEFA Europa League ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Over the years, Arsenal and Aston Villa have met many times in all competitions. The Gunners and the Villans have gone head to head on no less than 205 occasions, and it is Arsenal who currently have the superior record of 88 victories in this fixture over the years compared with Villa’s total of 71. They have drawn against each other 46 times in total so far, as of the time of writing.

Arsenal was the only team to beat Aston Villa at Villa Park in the Premier League last season back on 24th August 2024. The two clubs drew 2 – 2 at the Emirates Stadium last time that they met in a competitive fixture, with this game having taken place in the Premier League.
