Aston Villa, who are led by their Spanish Head Coach Unai Emery, are set to take on a Brentford side led by their long serving Head Coach Thomas Frank at the iconic and historic Villa Park, a stadium that is located at the heart of Birmingham during the much anticipated 2025/26 Premier League season.
Villa will ultimately look to secure themselves a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League competition, either by finishing in the top four, or by winning the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League which they will be competing in this year. Victory here against the Bees would most certainly aid their cause to qualify for the Champions League through the league.
The atmosphere for this game promises to be electric in B6, with this game set to be enthralling and competitive in equal measure in what is going to be an important game for Villa in their quest for the top four, and it will be a crucial game for Bournemouth as well, as they look to secure themselves European Football through the Premier League this season.
In November 2022, Aston Villa’s current Head Coach Unai Emery was the man to take charge of the Villans as Steven Gerrard’s successor at Villa Park. Emery joined with his team just above the relegation zone, and in barely more than half a season, the Spaniard had guided Villa to a 7th place finish and a first European campaign for quite some time, with the West Midlands Club having secured a place in the following season’s UEFA Conference League after earning 61 points in the end.
In the season that followed, 2023/24, Villa got through to the Semi Finals of the UEFA Conference League, where they were unfortunately knocked out by the eventual winners in the form of Greek heavyweights Olympiacos over two legs. As for their Premier League campaign that year, Villa won a total of no less than 68 points to confirm a place in the following season’s UEFA Champions League thanks to a fourth place finish in the English top flight.
Last season, Villa got memorable Champions League victories against the likes of current German Champions Bayern Munich (1 – 0), RB Leipzig (3 – 2), and current Champions of Scotland Celtic, who were beaten 4 – 2 at Villa Park. However, despite beating current French Champions PSG on the night in the second leg of their Quarter Final tie at Villa Park, they were narrowly knocked out by the Parisians 5 – 4 on aggregate.
In the league itself, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa secured qualification for the UEFA Europa League after finishing in 6th place with 66 points, only narrowly missing out on a place in the Champions League for the second successive season last term.
Moving on to Brentford, their Danish long serving Head Coach Thomas Frank has been in charge ever since he took over from Dean Smith (who had left the Bees for boyhood club Aston Villa) back on 16th October 2018.
Then we fast forward to the 2020/21 season, where Brentford finally got promoted to the Premier League for the first time since it was established all the way back in 1992. It came after Brentford were able to reach the 2021 EFL Championship Play-Off Final, where they were able to beat Swansea City 2 – 0 thanks to goals from Ivan Toney (10’ – Penalty) and Emiliano Marcondes (20’), with both of their goals coming in the first half alone.
Brentford have been able to stay in the Premier League ever since under the stewardship of Thomas Frank, and last season (2024/25), they were amongst the clubs battling for a place in Europe through the Premier League. Unfortunately for the Bees, they were to fall short in the end, finishing in 10th place with a total of 56 points from their 38 matches in the English top flight last term.
In their most recent encounter in all competitions, these two football clubs came face to face at the Gtech Community Stadium in the Premier League back on 8th March 2025, when a goal from the club’s all-time record Premier League goal scorer Ollie Watkins was the goal that turned out to be the winner in the end. The goal came at the very start of the second half in the English capital (49’).
Overall, Aston Villa and Brentford have come face to face a grand total of 22 times in all competitions, and it is the Villa who has the superior record of 10 wins compared with the Bees’ total of 4 overall to date as of the time of writing, whilst there have also been 8 draws between these two clubs so far.
