Unai Emery’s Aston Villa will be welcoming Marco Silva and his Fulham side to Villa Park in the heart of Birmingham during the 2025/26 Premier League season. This game will be crucial for the Villans as they know that a win against their West London counterparts would give their Champions League hopes a boost, as well as some momentum going into the games that do follow this one.
This game will see two sides who play attractive football go head to head in the Second City in a game that promises to be intense and highly competitive as both clubs look to secure those all-important three points. The atmosphere at B6 for this game is set to be incredible, as it often is for games at Villa’s historic home.
Villa have not looked back since Unai Emery’s tenure in charge officially began back in November 2022, with them having gone from strength to strength. By the time the 2022/23 top flight campaign had come to a close, they were able to finish as high as 7th place with 61 points, having previously been in relegation trouble. This saw them qualify for the 2023/24 UEFA Conference League.
In Unai Emery’s first full season in charge, the Spaniard led Villa in what was an even better campaign for the club, with his side finishing as high as 4th place after a grand total of 68 points had been successfully accumulated from their 38 games in the English top flight that year. This was enough for qualification for the highly prestigious UEFA Champions League to be officially secured.
In the 2023/24 UEFA Conference League, Villa got all the way to the Semi Finals, where they were unfortunately knocked out by Greek Giants Olympiacos, who indeed went on to win the whole competition in the end.
Then came the 2024/25 season that saw Aston Villa perform beyond all expectations in the UEFA Champions League following a great League Phase campaign that saw them beat the likes of Bayern Munich (1 – 0), Celtic (4 – 2), and RB Leipzig (3 – 2). Then came the Round of 16, where Club Brugge were the opponents – however the Belgian outfit were beaten very comfortably in the end by the Villa, who were able to defeat them emphatically 6 – 1 on aggregate over the two legs.
Then came the Quarter Finals, where Villa were knocked out by the eventual winners in the form of Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint Germain 5 – 4 on aggregate. Emery’s side did at least secure a historic and well fought 3 – 2 victory at Villa Park in the second leg in a game that almost went into extra time.
In the 2024/25 Premier League season, Aston Villa only narrowly missed out on the Champions League, doing so on goal difference in the end after earning 66 points, which was the same as Newcastle United’s points total in 5th place. So, it was to be a 6th place finish for Villa, who have secured a place in the UEFA Europa League for the 2025/26 campaign.
Moving on to Fulham, their Portuguese Head Coach Marco Silva has been in charge since he took over from Scott Parker back on 1st July 2021. In the 2021/22 season, Silva led the Cottagers to what was an immediate return to the Premier League, winning the title with no less than 106 goals scored, as well as 90 points having been earned that year. They still finished just two points above Bournemouth in second place in the end.
In 2022/23, they survived relegation comfortably, finishing in 10th place with 52 points, with the gap between themselves and the bottom three being as many as 18 points overall. Silva’s side was comfortably a mid-table side in the 2023/24 campaign as well with a 13th place finish after getting 47 points.
Then last season, Fulham were amongst the clubs fighting for European Football, but they were to finish just short of the top seven thanks to what was an 11th place finish with 54 points, 9 adrift of the European places in the end.
The Villa and their West London counterparts last met in a competitive fixture back on 3rd May 2025 in what was a Premier League fixture at Villa Park. It was a crucial 1 – 0 victory for Emery and his team, with the winning goal coming from their Belgian international midfielder Youri Tielemans (12’).
Overall, Aston Villa and Fulham have gone head to head in a competitive fixture on a total of 78 occasions, with it being the Villans who have had the most victories to date with 30 as of the time of writing compared with the Cottagers’ record of 26 wins so far. There have been 22 draws between them.
