Chelsea, led by Head Coach Liam Rosenior, is going to be welcoming Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side at the iconic and historic Stamford Bridge, which is located in the heart of West London during the 2025/26 Premier League season.

A win for the Blues here would see them go one step closer to securing what would be a second season in succession of UEFA Champions League Football in what is European Club Football’s Premier Cup Competition. Victory here against the Cityzens would indeed take them a step closer to doing just that.

In a playing career spanning 16 years, Rosenior had spells with a number of clubs across the country, including the likes of Fulham (2003 – 2007), Reading (2007 – 2010), Hull City (2010 – 2015), and Brighton (2015 – 2018).

Moving on to his career in management, Liam began with Derby County as their interim Head Coach between June and September 2022, joining following Wayne Rooney’s departure, and only leaving just before the arrival of Paul Warne.

Then came his first permanent role as Head Coach with former club Hull City, who he joined back in November 2022, finishing in 15th place by the end of the 2022/23 campaign after having been in relegation trouble under his predecessor Shota Arveladze.

Then, even after securing a new three year deal, and ending the 2023/24 season in 7th place, just missing out on the play-offs in the Championship, he was dismissed despite what was a positive season for the Tigers.

There were many admirers for Liam Rosenior’s services, and it was French Club Strasbourg who secured his signature, with him joining as their new permanent Head Coach back in July 2024 just after the departure of his predecessor Patrick Vieira.

In the 2024/25 season, his only full campaign in charge, he led them to a 7th place finish in Ligue 1, ending up with 57 points, qualifying for UEFA Conference League football for the following campaign, only missing out on the Europa League on goal difference alone.

Moving on to Manchester City, they too are one of the heavyweights of English, European, and global football. The Head Coach of the Cityzens at the moment is of course Pep Guardiola, who has been in charge ever since he successfully succeeded Manuel Pellegrini, with the announcement of his appointment coming back on 1st February 2016. His tenure got underway at the end of the 2015/16 season, with just months to go before the 2016/17 campaign.

Guardiola has since become the most successful manager in the entire history of Manchester City Football Club, with these 18 trophies including 6 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups, 4 Carabao Cups, 3 Community Shields, 1 UEFA Champions League title, 1 UEFA Super Cup title, as well as 1 FIFA Club World Cup title.

In the Premier League last season, City failed to defend their title, with Guardiola’s Cityzens finishing down in 3rd place after they had earned what was a grand total of 71 points from their 38 matches in the end, with them just 3 points behind runners-up Arsenal in second place. Meanwhile, champions Liverpool ended up finishing 13 points above Manchester City in the end.

Overall, Chelsea and Manchester City have met competitively in all competitions on no less than 181 occasions, and it is the Blues who narrowly do have the superior record of 71 victories in this fixture, compared with the Cityzens’ total wins of 68 so far. There have also been 42 draws between these two teams to date, as of the time of writing.
