Chelsea, led by Interim Head Coach Callum McFarlane following the dismissal of Liam Rosenior, is set to come face to face with Vitor Pereira’s Nottingham Forest side at Stamford Bridge, which is located in the heart of West London, during the 2025/26 Premier League season.

The Blues are in desperate need of three points, with McFarlane looking to make an immediate impact and ensure Chelsea qualify for the UEFA Champions League despite recent defeats.

McFarlane began his coaching journey in non-league football with Croydon, where he served as assistant manager. In 2018, he followed first-team head coach Harry Hudson to Whyteleafe, continuing to build his experience at the grassroots level. His progression through the ranks took a significant step forward in 2020 when he departed Whyteleafe to join Manchester City, taking up an assistant role within the club’s highly regarded academy setup, where he remained until 2023.

He then moved to Southampton, initially leading the Under-18s before earning promotion to head coach of the Under-21s in February 2025. His development continued later that year with a move to Chelsea in July 2025, where he took charge of the Under-21s and also led the Under-19s in their UEFA Youth League campaign. Following the departure of first team manager Enzo Maresca in January 2026, McFarlane stepped in as interim head coach, overseeing a 1–1 draw against Manchester City. Although Liam Rosenior was subsequently appointed as permanent manager, McFarlane remained involved with the senior setup, joining the backroom staff. After Rosenior’s dismissal in April 2026, he was once again placed in interim charge of the first team until the end of the season.

Moving on to Nottingham Forest, on Tuesday, 21st October 2025, Sean Dyche replaced their Australian Head Coach, Ange Postecoglou, who had been in charge since taking over the club following the departure of Portuguese counterpart Nuno Espirito Santo on 9th September 2025.

However, he was dismissed on Thursday 12th February 2026 before being replaced by ex-Wolves boss Vitor Pereira who joins the Reds as he looks to help his new side avoid relegation.

Last season, 2024/25 was was an incredible campaign for the club, with them amongst the clubs battling for UEFA Champions League football before eventually missing out, but still managing to successfully qualify for European Football.

This is thanks to a 7^th place finish after they had earned a total of 65 points. They were only 1 point adrift of qualification for the highly coveted and prestigious UEFA Champions League places in the end.

A difficult start to the 2025/26 season for Forest saw them replace Nuno with Ange Postecoglou, who himself was replaced by former Burnley and Everton boss Sean Dyche. After Dyche left, Vitor Pereira, formerly of Wolves, took charge.

The last time that these two clubs went face to face competitively in all competitions was in the Premier League back on Saturday 18th October 2025. It was an emphatic, ruthless, and well deserved 3 – 0 victory away from home at the City Ground for Chelsea, with them scoring their goals through the likes of Josh Acheampong (49′), Pedro Neto (52′), and finally Reece James in the dying embers of the game in the second half (87′).

It was also a special occasion for James, with this game being his 200th senior appearance for the club.

Overall, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have met competitively in all competitions on no less than 101 occasions, and it is the Blues who do have the superior record of no less than 43 victories, with Forest having 27 wins for themselves in this fixture over the years to date. There have also been 31 draws to date between these two teams so far, as of the time of writing.
