Everton, led by their Scottish Head Coach David Moyes, is set to welcome Fabian Hürzeler’s Brighton & Hove Albion at the new home of the Toffees, the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the city of Liverpool in what is going to be a crucial game for the Blues during the 2025/26 Premier League season. It would be a significant win for Everton, with them looking to finish mid table this term, with the potential to even find themselves in the top half of the table once their latest top flight campaign has come to an end.
This game against the Seagulls will be the first ever competitive game to be played at Everton’s new ground, with the capacity of the modern Hill Dickinson Stadium standing at no less than 52,769. The atmosphere at this brand new stadium promises to be electric, especially on what is going to be a special occasion when Moyes’ side plays their first ever league game at their spectacular new home.
This is a second spell in charge of Everton for boss David Moyes, whose original tenure at the Merseyside based club took place over 11 years between 2002 and his departure for Manchester United in 2013. His era saw the Toffees spend most of the season in the upper reaches of the table, and his era was famous for players such as Tim Cahill, Wayne Rooney, David Unsworth, Thomas Gravesen, Tim Howard, Yakubu, Steven Pienaar, Phil Jagielka, and of course Leighton Baines.
Moyes returned to the club more than a decade after his initial departure on 11th January 2025 when he succeeded Sean Dyche as Toffees boss. The Scot then went on to lead his side away from any relegation troubles to eventually go on and finish in a very respectable 13th place with a gap of no less than 23 points between themselves and the drop after they had managed to end the season on what was a total of 48 points after 38 games overall.
During last season, the Toffees got standout results, including wins against the likes of Newcastle United (0 – 1), Fulham (1 – 3), Nottingham Forest (0 – 1), Leicester City (4 – 0), Spurs (3 – 2), Wolves (4 – 0), and Crystal Palace (2 – 1).
Moving on to Brighton, they have had Fabian Hürzeler as their Head Coach ever since his appointment by the Seagulls was confirmed back on 15th June 2024, replacing the outgoing Roberto De Zerbi who went to French Club Marseille.
The 2024/25 campaign was his first full season in charge of the South Coast Club, and he was able to lead his new team to what was a very respectable 8th place finish after a total of 61 points had been accumulated from their 38 games in total. They ended up finishing the season sitting just 4 points adrift of a place in Europe.
The most recent competitive game in all competitions between these two clubs took place in the Premier League back on 25th January 2025 at the Amex Stadium. It was a tight and tense 1 – 0 victory for the visiting Toffees side in the end, with it being Iliman Ndiaye who scored the winning goal from the penalty spot very late on into the first half (42’).
Overall, Everton and Brighton have met competitively in all competitions on no less than 27 occasions, and it is the Toffees who currently have the superior record of 12 victories in this fixture, whilst the Seagulls have just 7 wins in games against Everton so far, as of the time of writing. There have also been 8 draws between these two teams to date.
