A 1 – 0 win against Bournemouth on the final day of last season was enough to not only secure 17th place but it was also enough to see Everton remain in the Premier League. Sean Dyche’s Toffees will be facing Brighton at Goodison Park, where a win will boost their hopes of finishing the season with a considerable gap between themselves and the bottom three. As for Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton, they will look to secure European football for the second successive season.
After a year in charge, Frank Lampard was dismissed by Everton, with the club sitting in 19th place with 15 points, before choosing Sean Dyche as the manager to lead them to safety and beyond. Dyche did just that, sealing their place in the Premier League for the 2023/24 season in 17th after some great results.
The win against Bournemouth was the cherry on top of the cake for Everton and their survival hopes. Wins against the likes of Arsenal paved the way for the final day, where the Blues got the win they needed to avoid the drop.
Dwight McNeil’s 7 Premier League goals were the most of any other Everton player, with Abdoulaye Doucouré and Demarai Gray scoring 5 and 4 goals, respectively.
Roberto De Zerbi was announced as Brighton’s latest Head Coach on 18th September 2022, following Graham Potter’s departure from Chelsea. The Italian led the Seagulls to a spectacular 6th-place finish after accumulating 62 points. This top-six finish saw them secure Europa League football.
Alexis Mac Allister, with ten goals, was the top goal scorer for the Seagulls last term, followed closely by Pascal Gross with 9. Solly March, Kaoru Mitoma and Leandro Trossard all found the back of the net seven times in the league.
Everton and Brighton first met in a competitive fixture in an FA Cup 2nd Round tie on 1st February 1913. Overall, the two clubs have met on 23 occasions, with the Toffees having a superior record of 11 wins compared to the Seagulls’ 6. There have been six draws to date.
It was an emphatic 5 – 1 Premier League away win for Dyche’s Everton against Brighton the last time the two clubs met on 8th May 2023. Abdoulaye Doucouré (1’, 29’), Dwight McNeil (76’, 90+6’) and a Jason Steele own goal (35’) ensured this win for the Toffees.
