David Moyes’ Everton is going to come face to face with a Chelsea team led by their Head Coach Enzo Maresca to their new home, the all-new and modern Hill Dickinson Stadium in the heart of Merseyside. This game promises to be enthralling and highly competitive, with it set to take place during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The Toffees will be targeting a mid-table finish this term, with an eye on potentially ending up with a top-half finish once all of their games have been played. Victory against their West London counterparts would represent a statement victory, whilst also taking them a step closer to realising their ambitions for this season.
This will be the first time in the history of this fixture that Everton and Chelsea will meet in a competitive fixture in all competitions at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, which has a capacity of no less than 52,769 meaning that it is a ground that can produce a simply sensational atmosphere, which should be expected on most matchdays. This game against the Blues promises to be enthralling. The last time that these two clubs met in Merseyside was at Goodison Park, the historic ground that Everton left at the end of last season.
David Moyes is, of course, the current Head Coach of Everton Football Club, and he is currently enjoying what is a second spell in charge of the Toffees in his career, with his 2025 return coming no less than 12 years after his original departure for Manchester United back in 2013. This saw him become the successor to fellow Scot and the legendary Manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.
Throughout his first era in charge, a great number of iconic players wore the Blue of Everton under the stewardship of the Scottish Head Coach. This included the likes of Tim Cahill, Wayne Rooney, David Unsworth, Thomas Gravesen, Tim Howard, Yakubu, Steven Pienaar, Phil Jagielka, and Leighton Baines, as well as many more.
In the more than a decade he spent away from the Toffees, Moyes took charge at several clubs, including Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland, and West Ham, the latter of whom he was manager twice. In 2023, he led the Hammers to European glory when they won the 2023 UEFA Conference League title after beating Italian Serie A outfit Fiorentina 2 – 1 thanks to goals from Said Benrahma (62’ – Penalty) and Jarrod Bowen (90’). The only goal for La Viola on that day came from their central midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura in the middle of the second half, just moments after Benrahma’s opener (67’).
The announcement of David Moyes’ return to Everton Football Club came back on Saturday 11th January 2025, with the Scotsman officially succeeding Sean Dyche at the club. Over the course of his first months back in charge, he managed to dramatically change the fortunes of the team, with them going from a relegation battle to what was a comfortable and very respectable 13th place finish after they had managed to accumulate a total of 48 points from the 38 matches that they had played overall in England’s top flight.
They ended up with a gap of 23 points between themselves and the relegation zone.
Moving on to Chelsea, their Italian Head Coach, Enzo Maresca, has been officially in charge of the Blues of West London since his appointment was confirmed on 3rd June 2024, following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure from Stamford Bridge. In his first full season in charge, he led them to a 4th-place finish after his side accumulated a total of 69 points from their 38 games, successfully qualifying for the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League.
They also saw some European success come their way last term, with Chelsea beating Spanish side Real Betis 4–1 to win the 2025 UEFA Conference League title at the Wrocław Stadium in Wrocław, Poland.
Overall, Everton and Chelsea have met competitively in all competitions on at least 194 occasions, and it is the latter who has the superior record, with the Blues of West London having a total of 77 wins in this fixture against the Toffees. In contrast, the Toffees have 60 victories against Chelsea so far. There have also been 57 draws between these two ever-present Premier League teams to date, as of the time of writing.
