At the Etihad Stadium, guests are wanted to feel that ‘warm welcome’ from the staff. The dress code for Man City home games at the Etihad Stadium is smart casual, which is great for those in need of an action-packed day. The Etihad Stadium strictly prohibits:

• Offensive clothing and away tops are strictly prohibited

Manchester City, led by their Spanish Head Coach Pep Guardiola, are set to take on Regis Le Bris’ newly promoted Sunderland side at the iconic Etihad Stadium during the 2025/26 Premier League season.

The Cityzens will, of course, be among the clubs leading contenders to win the title this season, and they will be looking to regain the title after failing to retain it last season, when it was Liverpool who went on to become the reigning Champions of England. A victory here against the Black Cats would most certainly give their chances a boost, and it would strengthen their bid for glory as they seek to have an advantage over all of their title rivals.

Pep Guardiola is of course the current Head Coach of Manchester City Football Club, and it is a post that he has held ever since the Spaniard began his legendary era at the club just before the start of the 2016/17 season. He became Manuel Pellegrini’s successor at the club, with the Chilean taking charge of the remainder of the 2015/16 campaign following the announcement of Pep’s imminent appointment back on 1st February 2016.

Last season (2024/25) saw Guardiola and his City side fail to retain their title, finishing in 3rd place with a total of 71 points from their 38 games. They had missed out to Arne Slot’s Liverpool, who got their hands on the title instead, whilst it was Arsenal, led by fellow Spaniard and Pep’s former assistant at City, Mikel Arteta.

In his time at Manchester City so far, Pep Guardiola has led them to a plethora of trophies (18 to date), and this includes 6 Premier League titles (2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21, 2021/22/ 2022/23 & 2023/24), 2 FA Cups (2018/19 & 2022/23), 4 Carabao Cup titles (2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20 & 2020/21), 3 FA Community Shield titles (2018, 2019 & 2024), 1 UEFA Champions League title (2022/23), 1 UEFA Super Cup title (2023), and finally 1 FIFA Club World Cup (2023).

Moving on to Sunderland, the newly promoted side are currently led by their French Head Coach Regis Le Bris, who has been in charge of the North East club ever since he succeeded Michael Beale as Black Cats boss back on Saturday 22nd June 2024.

The 2024/25 campaign was his first full season in charge of the Black Cats, and he was able to lead them to promotion back to the Premier League after an almost decades long absence from the top flight. They went up via the play-offs following a 3rd place finish, with them beating Sheffield United 2 – 1 in the 2025 EFL Championship Play-Off Final.

The goal scorers for Sunderland on that day were Eliezer Mayenda (76’) and Tom Watson in dramatic fashion deep into the second half stoppage time under the famous Wembley arch in the English Capital (90+5’). They had initially fallen behind thanks to a first half goal from Tyrese Campbell for the Blades (25’) before Sunderland then turned things around and won.

The last time that these two clubs faced each other competitively in all competitions was in the Premier League back on Sunday 5th March 2017 at the Stadium Of Light. It saw Manchester City won 2 – 0 thanks to goals from the likes of Sergio Aguero (42’) and Leroy Sane (59’), who scored their goals either side of half time.

Overall, Manchester City and Sunderland have met competitively in all competitions on at least 147 occasions, and it is the Cityzens who hold the superior record, with as many as 72 victories in this fixture against the Black Cats. The Black Cats, meanwhile, have achieved 50 wins against City to date. There have also been 25 draws between these two teams so far, as of the time of writing.
