Pep Guardiola is going to lead his Manchester City side in an upcoming game against a West Ham United side who are led by their English Head Coach Graham Potter, with this competitive contest set to take place at the iconic Etihad Stadium during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The Cityzens will of course be seeking all three points against the Hammers, with victory creating momentum that is always vital for a title race. Not only that, a win would take them a step closer to realising their ambitions to regain the title having lost out to Arne Slot and his Liverpool once all the games had been played last season.
The current Head Coach of Manchester City Football Club is of course Pep Guardiola, who has been in charge of the Cityzens ever since he officially succeeded Manuel Pellegrini at the club ahead of the start of the 2016/17 season. Pep had been announced as the replacement for his Chilean counterpart in the Etihad Stadium dugout back on 1st February 2016, with Pellegrini taking charge for the remainder of the 2015/16 campaign.
Last season (2024/25) was Guardiola’s most recent full season in charge of City, and during it, they were part of the race for the title. Still, they did, unfortunately, go on to miss out in the end after they had to settle for a 3rd place finish after accumulating a total of no less than 71 points from their 38 games in total in the top flight.
Champions Liverpool finished top with 84 points, whilst it was Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal who was the runner-up in second place with 74 points to their name, and with a gap of just three points between them and City overall, in the end.
During his trophy-laden time with Manchester City as boss, Pep Guardiola has led the club to as many as 18 trophies. These include 6 Premier League titles (2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21, 2021/22/ 2022/23 & 2023/24), 2 FA Cups (2018/19 & 2022/23), 4 Carabao Cup titles (2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20 & 2020/21), 3 FA Community Shield titles (2018, 2019 & 2024), 1 UEFA Champions League title (2022/23), 1 UEFA Super Cup title (2023), and finally 1 FIFA Club World Cup (2023).
Moving on to West Ham United, their English Head Coach, Graham Potter, has been in charge of the Hammers since his appointment was confirmed on Thursday, 9th January 2025, following his predecessor, Julen Lopetegui, in the London Stadium hot seat.
Over the course of the remainder of the 2024/25 season, Potter led his new club to what was a respectable 14th place finish with a total of 43 points to their name after the East London outfit had played all of their 38 games in the league. This ultimately resulted in a comfortable 18-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.
The last time that these two clubs faced each other competitively in all competitions was in the Premier League back on Saturday 4th January 2025 at the iconic Etihad Stadium in what was an emphatic and thrilling 4 – 1 win for City against West Ham, with the Cityzens scoring their goals through the likes of Erling Haaland (42’, 55’) and Phil Foden (58’), whilst there was also an own goal early on in the game to open the scoring via the Hammers’ right back Vladimir Coufal within the first ten minutes (10’). West Ham United got their only goal of the game through their German forward Niclas Fullkrug late on in the second half (71’).
Overall, Manchester City and West Ham United have met competitively in all competitions on no less than 123 occasions, and it is City who do indeed have the superior record of as many as 66 victories against the Hammers, whilst the East London outfit have 38 wins in total to their name against City so far. There have also been 19 draws between these two teams to date, as of the time of writing.
