Manchester United, led by their Portuguese Head Coach Ruben Amorim, is set to take on Scott Parker’s newly promoted Burnley side at the iconic and historic Old Trafford, which is located in the heart of the City of Manchester, during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
If the Red Devils can secure the victory they are targeting against the Clarets, then this would certainly create fresh momentum going into their next few games. The three points that it would provide would also see United take a significant step closer to realising their ambitions for the season, which is to secure a successful return to European football.
Ruben Amorim is, of course, the incumbent Head Coach of Manchester United Football Club. The Portuguese boss has been in charge since his tenure began on Monday, 11th November 2024, taking over from his predecessor, Erik Ten Hag. The announcement of Amorim’s appointment took place earlier that month, on November 1st.
Last season saw Amorim take charge halfway through the campaign, and in the Premier League, they finished 15th with a total of 42 points after playing all 38 games. They did emerge with a notable win on the final day of last season, beating Aston Villa 2–0 at Old Trafford. This triumph at the Theatre of Dreams ensured that the Red Devils could at least end their 2024/25 league campaign on a high.
Moving on to Burnley, the newly promoted side is currently under the stewardship of their English Head Coach, Scott Parker. He has been in charge of the Lancashire side ever since he took over from his predecessor, Vincent Kompany, on Friday, 5th July 2024. Kompany had departed for German Giants Bayern Munich.
Parker’s first season was the Clarets’ 2024/25 EFL Championship campaign, which saw them secure promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, doing so automatically after they were able to finish in 2nd place as runners-up. They had earned a total of no less than 100 points, missing out on the title by goal difference alone to Leeds United.
The last time these two clubs met competitively in all competitions was in the Premier League, back on Saturday, 27th April 2024, at Old Trafford, in a 1–1 draw following goals from Antony (79’) and Zeki Amdouni (87’, penalty).
United’s most recent victory against the Clarets came earlier in the 2023/24 campaign on Saturday, 23rd September 2023 at Turf Moor, when the Red Devils were able to win 1 – 0 away from home thanks to a winning goal from Bruno Fernandes just before the half-time break (45’).
Overall, Manchester United and Burnley have met competitively in all competitions on at least 137 occasions, and it is United who currently hold the superior record, with 67 victories compared to the Clarets’ total of 45 wins so far. There have also been 25 draws between these two teams to date, as of the time of writing.
