Manchester United v Hull City – Premier League 2026/27

Manchester United welcome newly promoted Hull City to Old Trafford in April, with Sergej Jakirović’s side returning to the Premier League following a dramatic promotion campaign.

Hull secured their return to the top flight by defeating Middlesbrough 1–0 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, with Oli McBurnie scoring the decisive goal deep into stoppage time. The Tigers had finished sixth in the Championship before successfully navigating the play-offs.

Their visit to Old Trafford will therefore provide Hull with another major test during their first Premier League campaign following promotion.

Manchester United enter the 2026/27 season looking to build on their third-place Premier League finish and return to the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League under permanent Head Coach Michael Carrick.

Carrick made an impressive impact after initially taking charge on an interim basis, winning 12 of his first 17 matches as United finished the previous campaign with 71 points and secured Champions League qualification.

Bruno Fernandes remains one of United’s key attacking influences, supported by the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. Goalkeeper Senne Lammens also impressed, recording eight clean sheets in 32 appearances.

Hull City’s 2025/26 campaign ended with promotion back to the Premier League following a dramatic Championship play-off campaign. After finishing sixth, the Tigers defeated Millwall in the semi-finals before beating Middlesbrough 1–0 at Wembley, with Oli McBurnie’s stoppage-time winner securing their return to the top flight.

Sergej Jakirović, who took charge in June 2025, helped transform Hull into a competitive and resilient side during his first season at the club. His work earned recognition with a nomination for Championship Manager of the Year before Hull completed their promotion campaign at Wembley.

The challenge for Hull now turns to establishing themselves in the Premier League, with their visit to Old Trafford providing one of the standout fixtures of their return to the top flight.
