The North London Derby is a fixture famous around the world, and the latest iteration of this fierce and long-standing local rivalry is set to be renewed once more when Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs go toe to toe with an Arsenal side led by Mikel Arteta. This game will be taking place at the iconic Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the heart of North London during the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Qualification for European football will be Tottenham Hotspur’s target this season, and a victory over the Gunners would give them a boost in their bid to achieve that. A win would also give fans local bragging rights. This game is poised to create an incredible atmosphere, promising to be both enthralling and highly competitive.

Current Spurs Head Coach Ange Postecoglou has been in charge since his appointment on 6th June 2023, succeeding Antonio Conte after interim spells with Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason.

In his first season in charge (2023/24), his Spurs side enjoyed a strong season in the Premier League, finishing in 5th place after accumulating 66 points from their 38 games. They only missed out on Champions League football by two points in the end. It did see the club seal a return to European Football through the UEFA Europa League.

Last season (2024/25), the Lilywhites had a superb campaign in the Europa League, beating the likes of Ferencvaros (2 – 1), AZ Alkmaar (1 – 0), and Hoffenheim (3 – 2) in the league phase before coming up against the aforementioned AZ Alkmaar once again, this time in the Round of 16. They won 3–2 on aggregate to seal a place in the Quarter-Finals.

German Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt were the opponents for Spurs in the Quarter Finals. Postecoglou’s side drew 1 – 1 with Die Adler at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the first leg before the North London outfit sealed a 2 – 1 aggregate victory thanks to a 1 – 0 triumph in Germany in the second leg.

Then came the Semi-Finals, where Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt over two legs. Spurs won the first leg 3 – 1 at home in the English Capital before the Lilywhites triumphed 2 – 0 away from home in Norway in the second leg to book themselves a place in the Final.

Ange Postecoglou and his side faced Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United in the Final at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Spain where it was Tottenham who won 1 – 0 thanks to a winning goal from Brennan Johnson late on in the first half (42’).

This secured Spurs a place in the highly coveted UEFA Champions League for the 2025/26 season.

Moving on to Tottenham’s North London rivals Arsenal, their Head Coach Mikel Arteta has been in charge of the Gunners since his appointment back in October 2022 when he became Unai Emery’s permanent successor at the club.

Arsenal finished as runners-up in second place for three consecutive seasons, from 2022/23 to 2024/25, and they are a club looking to take one step further and secure the Premier League title this season. These seasons saw them finish with 84 points, 89 points, and most recently 74 points.

The Gunners reached the Semi-Finals of the Champions League last season, with the highlight being their 5 – 1 aggregate victory over Real Madrid over two legs. They were knocked out at the last four stage by the eventual winners PSG.

Spurs will be looking to emerge victorious and claim local bragging rights when they face their North London rivals, Arsenal, this season.

Overall, Spurs and Arsenal have faced each other in competitive matches in all competitions a total of 211 times over the years. Currently, the Gunners hold the superior record, with 89 wins, compared to Spurs’ 67 wins to date. There have been 55 draws between these two teams as of the time of writing.
