Bournemouth are set to make the trip north to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to face a Spurs side led by their new Head Coach, Ange Postecoglu. The two clubs will go head to head once again in North London in the 2023/24 Premier League season, with both sides looking secure the all-important three points.
Tottenham ended the most recent season, 2022/23, in 8th place, meaning that they had very narrowly missed out on European Football. Despite beating Leeds United in what was an emphatic 4-1 victory at Elland Road, they lost out on a top-seven finish by one point, with Aston Villa securing the 7th and final spot in Europe after their victory against Brighton.
As a club, Tottenham scored 70 goals in total, which was the fifth-best record in the division last season. Only Brighton (72), Liverpool (75), Arsenal (88) and Champions Manchester City (94) scored more last term.
It probably comes as no surprise that Harry Kane was Tottenham’s leading goal scorer last season, with no less than 30 goals to his name in the Premier League alone – only Manchester City forward Erling Haaland scored more in England’s top flight with 36 in total. Fellow forward Heung-Min Son was second in terms of goals for Spurs last season, scoring on 10 occasions.
Ange Postecoglu was named as Antonio Conte’s permanent successor at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in June 2023, leaving Celtic to join the Lilywhites after a highly successful tenure in Glasgow. The Australian Head Coach won no less than 5 trophies during his 2 years with Celtic: 2 Scottish Premiership titles (2021/22 & 2022/23), 1 Scottish Cup (2022/23) and 2 Scottish League Cups (2021/22 & 2022/23).
Celtic were the team to beat in the Scottish Premiership last season, winning 32 of their 38 matches whilst also accumulating 99 points. The Bhoys were also by far the best goal scoring team in Scotland’s top flight last term, scoring no less than 114 goals – 21 more than Rangers, who scored the next most with a total of 93.
Gary O’Neil took over as Bournemouth’s Head Coach following the departure of Scott Parker after a 9-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield. O’Neil oversaw a dramatic change in fortune for the South Coast club, with the Cherries going on to secure their Premier League safety by finishing in 15th place with 39 points – 5 clear of the bottom three. Despite this, O’Neil was dismissed by Bournemouth following the end of the 2022/23 season.
Denmark’s Philip Billing was top scorer for the Cherries in the Premier League last term, scoring 7 goals over the course of the season. Forward Dominic Solanke was second with 6, whilst midfielder Jefferson Lerma got on the scoresheet 5 times, as did summer signing Marcus Tavernier.
Spurs and Bournemouth first met all the way back in February 1957 in the 5th Round of that season’s FA Cup. Overall, they have played each other on 13 occasions, and it is Spurs with the superior record of 8 wins in comparison to 3 for the Cherries. There have been 2 draws as of the time of writing.
The most recent match that was played between these two teams came on 15th April 2023 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where Spurs lost a very competitive league match 3-2. The Lilywhites will look to avenge this defeat when the two clubs face each other once again.
