2026 Winter Transfers: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur

Premier League Winter Transfers 2026

The January transfer window saw Premier League clubs adjust their squads for the remainder of the season.

With new players arriving, others departing, and varying levels of investment across Aston Villa, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool, the second half of the campaign brings fresh storylines to matchdays.

  • Arsenal stayed quiet in the January window, making no incoming signings.
  • Aston Villa welcomed back fan favourite Tammy Abraham as a key transfer, returning to the club on a permanent basis after his loan spell during the 2018/19 season. Douglas Luiz’s return is also worth a mention, with the Brazilian midfielder rejoining on loan from Juventus with an option to buy, 18 months after leaving Villa.
  • Liverpool’s key deal is Jérémy Jacquet, with a transfer agreed from Rennes. He is their only signing. While the deal was agreed in January, he will officially join in the summer transfer window at the end of the season.
  • At Spurs, Conor Gallagher stands out as the key signing. The club completed just two signings during the January transfer window.
1. Conor Gallagher: Atlético Madrid to Tottenham

Fee: ~£34.7m

After sixteen months in the Spanish capital, the energetic England midfielder has returned to London – this time trading Chelsea blue for the white of Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs beat out stiff competition from Aston Villa to secure the 25-year-old on a permanent deal. Gallagher, who made 77 appearances for Atlético, cited his desire to return to the Premier League to bolster his chances for Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad. His arrival at North London was funded largely by the sale of Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace, making him a central pillar of Thomas Frank’s midfield rebuild.

2. Tammy Abraham: Besiktas to Aston Villa

Fee: ~£18.3m

In one of the more unique “triangle” deals of the window, Tammy Abraham has returned to Aston Villa just months after moving to Turkey.

Besiktas originally brought Abraham in on loan from AS Roma with an obligation to buy. Upon fulfilling those conditions for roughly €13m, the Turkish giants immediately turned a profit by selling him to Villa. The 28-year-old striker, who previously enjoyed a legendary loan spell at Villa in the Championship, returns to provide 6ft 4in of aerial presence for Unai Emery’s side as they push for a top-four finish.

3. Souza: Santos to Tottenham

Fee: ~£13m.

Tottenham didn’t just stop at Gallagher; they also looked to the future by securing 19-year-old Brazilian sensation Souza.

The highly-rated left-back arrives from Santos after Spurs saw an initial bid rejected. Known for his technical ability and attacking flair, Souza is expected to provide immediate competition for Destiny Udogie. Despite having a reported €100m release clause in Brazil, Spurs managed to negotiate a deal that experts are already calling one of the “bargains of the window” for a player widely considered one of the brightest defensive prospects in South America.
