Bournemouth vs. Chelsea Preview
Enzo Maresca’s Blues continue their Premier League campaign with a game away from home against Bournemouth.
Following the international break, Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea will be resuming their 2024/25 Premier League campaign by taking a trip to the South Coast to face Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium this weekend. The match will be taking place on Saturday 14th September 2024 with the game set to kick off at 20:00 in the evening.
Chelsea’s most recent game in the league saw them take on Oliver Glasner and his Crystal Palace side at Stamford Bridge at the start of September. It was a 1 – 1 stalemate that saw the hosts take the lead with almost half an hour of the game gone before the Blues conceded an equaliser when the Eagles equalised through Eberechi Eze in the early stages of the second half (53’).
The Blues did pick up a sensational result when they were able to beat Gary O’Neil’s Wolves 6 – 2 at Molineux in the Premier League at the end of August. Nicolas Jackson (2’), Cole Palmer (45’), Noni Madueke (49’, 58’, 63’), and Joao Felix (80’) were all on target for the visitors that day.
Victory against the Cherries on Sunday could see Chelsea climb as high as third in the Premier League table should they get three points, together with other results going their way. A win would certainly edge the Blues closer to realising their ambition of securing a return to the UEFA Champions League come the end of the season.
As for Bournemouth, their most recent Premier League encounter saw them go toe to toe with Everton at Goodison Park. The Cherries were able to stage a sensational late comeback, coming from two goals down to win 3 – 2 in the blink of an eye. Goals from Michael Keane (50’) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (57’) gave the hosts a 2 – 0 lead before the Toffees were defeated thanks to late goals from Antoine Semenyo (87’), Lewis Cook (90+2’), and Luis Sinisterra (90+6’).
Bournemouth and Chelsea first met in a competitive fixture on 3rd September 1988, with the Cherries winning 1 – 0. The Blues’ first victory against their South Coast counterparts was on 25th March 1989 at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea winning 2 – 0 thanks to goals from Gordon Durie and Graham Roberts (Penalty).
The most recent win for the Blues against the Cherries took place at Stamford Bridge back on 19th May 2024. Chelsea were 2 – 1 winners on the day, taking the lead through Moises Caicedo with almost twenty minutes gone (17’), before doubling their advantage just after the break through forward Raheem Sterling (48’). The visitors did pull a goal back when Benoit Badiashile put the ball into the back of his own net, but the Blues did manage to hold on to their lead (49’).
Overall, Chelsea and Bournemouth have met each other a total of 21 times over the years in all competitions, and it is the Blues who have the superior record of 14 victories compared with the Cherries’ total of 5 wins so far. To date, there have been 2 draws as of the time of writing.
Excitement and anticipation are building ahead of this game between Bournemouth and Chelsea at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday 14th September 2024 in what is an 8pm kick-off.
