Match Review
In the opening moments of this game, it was the hosts Chelsea who had the opening opportunity to open the scoring in this contest, with forward Noni Madueke forcing a great save from Everton Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with less than fifteen minutes having elapsed in West London (14’).
The next chance for the hosts to score a crucial first goal of the game came through their Spanish international left back Marc Cucurella, who had a chance of his own with just over twenty five minutes having gone. Cucurella’s effort from the centre of the box missed narrowly past the right post after a free-kick had been awarded to the home side (26’).
Chelsea did not have to reflect on this or any missed opportunity from this game for much longer though, with the Blues finally opening the scoring at the Bridge just a minute after Cucurella’s attempt on goal. This breakthrough came through striker Nicolas Jackson, who was able to find the bottom left corner with a composed and clinical finish that gave Pickford very little chance of making the save. Jackson had scored after having received a pass into his feet from midfielder Enzo Fernandez (27’).
Chelsea were able to keep the pressure on the visitors, with the hosts having two shots on goal in almost as many minutes just moments after they had taken the lead. The first opportunity came through the aforementioned Enzo Fernandez (33’), whilst Noni Madueke then forced a great save from Pickford just a few moments later (37’).
The first half then came to an end with Chelsea holding what was a deserved 1 – 0 lead against their Merseyside rivals Everton. In the second half, the Blues would be looking to secure this victory and add yet another three points to their Premier League tally with UEFA Champions League qualification for next season very much in their sights.
Just after the half time break, Madueke forced yet another great save from Jordan Pickford, having met a fantastic cross into the box from Portuguese forward Pedro Neto (49’).
Carlos Alvarez had an effort blocked for Everton shortly after (54’) before Toffees forward Beto had a great opportunity to restore parity in this game, but his effort was well saved thanks to Chelsea’s Spanish stopper Robert Sanchez with just under half an hour of this game remaining (63’).
Idrissa Gueye had a shot saved for Everton (67’), before Moises Caicedo had an opportunity of their own just a minute later, but missed the target (68’). Youssef Chermiti then had a shot blocked for Everton (72’), before Toffees Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford had to make yet another save from Noni Madueke with less than 20 minutes of the game remaining (74’).
Marc Cucurella then had an effort saved by Jordan Pickford just a total of one minute later, following Madueke’s effort on goal (75’). Cucurella then forced another good save from the Everton Goalkeeper ten minutes later (85’).
Then came an opportunity for a goal from Everton’s Dwight McNeil who forced Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez into a save to keep his side in the lead going into the final few moments of the match (87’).
The full time whistle then soon went, with Enzo Maresca and Chelsea coming away with what is an invaluable three points with victory against David Moyes’ Everton side at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

Following this crucial 1 – 0 victory against David Moyes and Everton for Chelsea, the Blues’ Italian Head Coach Enzo Maresca had the following to say following the match at Stamford Bridge (via the Official Chelsea Website):
