2025 Scottish Open: Robert MacIntyre to defend title
Reigning Champion and home favourite Robert MacIntyre is set to return to the iconic Renaissance Club to defend his crown at the next Scottish Open in 2025.
The 43rd edition of the world famous Genesis Scottish Open will be taking place at the Renaissance Club in East Lothian, Scotland. The 2025 tournament will be taking place throughout what promises to be an enthralling and action packed four days, where some of the best golf players in the world will be going head to head for glory from Thursday 10th July to Sunday 13th July 2025.
This will be the fourth Scottish Open to have taken place at the Renaissance Club, and it was home favourite Robert MacIntyre who came out on top as the winner of the 2024 tournament when he finished on 18 under par to earn his first ever Scottish Open title, just ahead of runner-up Adam Scott who himself ended with 17 under par.
Just behind the Australian in third place was France’s Romain Langasque. 2023 winner Rory McIlroy had to settle for a joint fourth place finish on 14 under par alongside Aaron Rai, Im Sung-Jae, Sahith Theegala, Collin Morikawa, and Ludvig Aberg.
2024 winner MacIntyre has been confirmed to be returning to compete in the 2025 Scottish Open, where the Scot will be looking to become the first Scottish golf player to have won this particular championship two years in a row. This will also be his seventh consecutive appearance at his home open.
Victory would not only mean history for the tournament but also for himself as he’d also become one of very few players to have won the Scottish Open on more than one occasion.
Robert MacIntyre has already made history once before when he became the first Scot to win the Genesis Scottish Open for 25 years with his 2024 win.
Colin Montgomerie had been the most recent Scottish player to win the tournament, doing so in 1999 when he won with 16 under par with Sergio Garcia, Michael Jonzon, and Mats Lanner all ending up as joint runners-up in what was the last Scottish Open of the 20th Century.
Now we will take a look back at the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open. A thrilling first few days saw the leader change on several occasions and coming into the fourth and final day, MacIntyre did have a great opportunity to seal the title, but it was Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg who was leading the way at the top of the standings at the start of the final day.
In the end, Aberg dropped down as far as joint fourth place alongside 2023 winner McIlroy, as well as a number of other players including Collin Morikawa and Im Sung-Jae.
All of the action led to a very intense final few holes with Australian Adam Scott the leader of the pack when the action was nearing its conclusion. In the end, the Australian lost out to Robert MacIntyre, who managed to take the win thanks to an incredible and very memorable birdie on the final hole to ultimately win on 18 under par, with Scott narrowly the runner-up in the end with 17 under par.
All eyes will now be on the Renaissance Club for the 2025 edition of the famous Genesis Scottish Open, where home favourite Robert MacIntyre will be looking to make more history by winning a second title in a row at his home course.
MacIntyre will begin his title defence on Thursday 10th July, before the action comes to a close with what promises to be another truly memorable finale on Sunday 13th July 2025.
The 2024 edition of the Genesis Scottish Open enjoyed a record attendance, with no less than 76,024 people attending across the four days – this was almost 3,000 more than in the year before, with the 2023 tournament having an attendance of 73,111 people.
