The Cheltenham Christmas Meeting is an annual horse racing extravaganza, one of the most eye-catching on the calendar, held in December. The latest iteration, in 2026, will take place over two action-packed days, from Friday, 11th to Saturday, 12th December 2026.
Across the two days of action, with as many as 14 races, the standout race is the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup, also known as the December Gold Cup, arguably the most prestigious and iconic contest of the meeting. It takes place on the event’s second and final day.
The first ever winner was Limeking, ridden by Toss Taaffe and trained by Danny Morgan, who was the first ever winner all the way back in 1963. Fast forward to 2025, where the latest winner of this race was Glengouly, with the Faye Bramley-trained horse being ridden to victory by Jockey Sean Bowen in the end.
Bowen and Glengouly finished ahead of runner-up Vincenzo, ridden by Dylan Johnston, and pre-race favourite Jagwar, ridden by Jonjo O’Niell Jr, in third place overall, in the end.
