The Cambridgeshire Meeting is a horse racing event that brings a plethora of history in its wake. The meeting began all the way back in 1839, with the first winner being Lanercost. It has only gone from strength to strength since then, and it has been an annual event other than the respective breakouts of World War One (1914 – 1918) and World War Two (1939 – 1945).
The most successful horses in the history of the Cambridgeshire Meeting are Hackler’s Pride (1903 & 1904), Christmas Daisy (1909 & 1910), Sterope (1948 & 1949), Prince de Galles (1969 & 1970), Baronet (1978 & 1980), Rambo’s Hall (1989 & 1992) and Bronze Angel (2012 & 2014).
Nat Flatman and George Fordham are the two most successful jockeys in this race with 6 wins apiece. Flatman’s wins are as follows: (Vulcan – 1841, Evenus – 1844, Alarm – 1845 & Scherz – 1854). As for Fordham, his wins came as follows: (Little David – 1853, Odd Trick – 1857, See Saw – 1868 & Sabinus – 1871).
