Aston Villa complete Deadline Day signings of Ibrahim Mbaye and Taylor Harwood-Bellis for combined £76m

                              Aston Villa have continued their major summer rebuild after completing the signings of Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye and Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

Unai Emery has strengthened at both ends of the pitch as Villa prepare for a season that will include another Premier League campaign alongside Champions League football.

Mbaye arrives at Villa Park from European champions Paris Saint-Germain in a £47m deal, while Harwood-Bellis has joined Southampton for an initial £25m. A further £4m in potential add-ons could eventually take the defender’s transfer fee to £29m.

The pair become the latest arrivals during a busy transfer window for Villa, who have reshaped Emery’s squad following several significant departures.

Ibrahim Mbaye adds another attacking option for Aston Villa

At just 18 years old, Mbaye arrives in the Midlands as one of the most exciting young players to emerge from Paris Saint-Germain’s academy in recent years.

The winger made 31 appearances in all competitions for PSG last season, scoring three goals and providing two assists as the French club retained both the Ligue 1 and Champions League titles.

Mbaye originally joined PSG from FC Versailles 78 in 2018 and progressed through the club’s youth system before making his senior debut in August 2024, when he was just 16.

Born in France, Mbaye represented the country at youth level before choosing to play senior international football for Senegal in 2025, qualifying through his father.

His growing reputation was enhanced further at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Mbaye appeared in all four of Senegal’s matches and found the net during their 3-1 defeat against France, becoming the youngest African player to score at a men’s World Cup.

He now becomes the latest attacking arrival at Villa following the additions of Alejandro Garnacho, Johan Manzambi and Nicolas Jackson.

Those additions have given Emery several new options following Ollie Watkins’ £51m move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal and Morgan Rogers’ £117m transfer to Chelsea.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis strengthens Villa’s defence

Villa have also moved to reinforce their defensive options with the arrival of England centre-back Harwood-Bellis.

The 24-year-old joins from Southampton after Villa eventually reached an agreement following two rejected bids. An initial £25m will be paid for the defender, with another £4m potentially due through add-ons.

Harwood-Bellis developed through Manchester City’s academy before building his senior experience through a number of loan spells.

He was part of the Burnley squad that won the Championship in 2022/23 before spending the following season with Southampton, helping the Saints secure promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs.

Southampton subsequently made the move permanent for £20m in 2024.

Harwood-Bellis experienced relegation during his first full Premier League campaign before Southampton reached the Championship play-off final last season. The Saints were subsequently disqualified following the Spygate scandal and started the new campaign with a four-point deduction.

The defender also apologised after making a binoculars gesture during Southampton’s play-off semi-final second-leg victory against Middlesbrough.

He now returns to the Premier League with Villa and provides Emery with another option in central defence following Ezri Konsa’s £55m move to reigning champions Arsenal.

Aston Villa’s summer rebuild continues

Mbaye and Harwood-Bellis are the latest additions during a summer of considerable change at Villa Park.

Villa entered the transfer window needing to prepare a squad capable of balancing Premier League and Champions League commitments while also dealing with the departure of several players who played important roles in last season’s Europa League triumph.

Rogers’ £117m transfer to Chelsea was followed by Konsa’s switch to Arsenal and Watkins’ move to Al-Hilal, meaning Villa have received significant fees for three established members of Emery’s squad.

In response, Villa have been active in strengthening across the pitch, with Mbaye joining the club’s new-look attacking group and Harwood-Bellis adding depth to the defence.
