Aston Villa in talks to sign Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho
The Villans are in advanced discussions with Chelsea over a deal to sign Alejandro Garnacho, with the proposed move potentially including an obligation to buy.
The Argentina international has been made available by Chelsea this summer, with the Blues previously valuing the 21-year-old at around £43 million. However, they are now open to a deal that could initially see Garnacho move on loan, provided certain conditions are met that would lead to a permanent transfer.
Villa’s interest comes shortly after Chelsea completed the record-breaking signing of Morgan Rogers from the Midlands club for a fee of £117 million, with the two clubs now in talks over another potential piece of business.
If a deal is completed, Garnacho would become Villa’s fourth arrival of the summer transfer window following the signings of Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes and Modou Keba Cisse.
Unai Emery’s side have also overseen a significant amount of movement in the opposite direction, with Villa’s outgoing transfers nearing £200 million. Youri Tielemans, Donyell Malen, Enzo Barrenechea and Lewis Dobbin have all departed the club.
Chelsea looking to move on Garnacho
Chelsea signed Garnacho from Manchester United last September in a deal worth around £40 million, but the winger has struggled to make a significant impact at Stamford Bridge.
The former United academy graduate has scored just one Premier League goal for Chelsea, while the arrival of Rogers from Villa and Sporting winger Geovany Quenda has increased competition for places and left the Blues looking to reduce the size of their squad.
Manchester United would also benefit from any future permanent transfer, with the club entitled to 10 per cent of the eventual fee due to a sell-on clause included as part of Garnacho’s move to Chelsea.
Who is Alejandro Garnacho?
Born in Madrid, Spain, on 1 July 2004, Alejandro Garnacho began his career in Atlético Madrid’s academy before joining Manchester United’s youth setup in October 2020.
The winger quickly progressed through the ranks at Old Trafford, winning the FA Youth Cup in 2022 and being named the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year in the same year.
Garnacho made his senior debut for Manchester United at just 17 years old and went on to establish himself as a regular first-team option. During his time at the club, he won the EFL Cup in 2023 and played a key role in the 2024 FA Cup triumph, scoring in the final against Manchester City.
After initially representing Spain at youth level, Garnacho switched allegiance to Argentina and made his Under-20 debut in 2022. He earned his first senior cap in June 2023 and was part of the Argentina squad that lifted the 2024 Copa America trophy.
A move to Aston Villa would give Garnacho the opportunity to secure regular first-team football and continue his development under Emery, while Chelsea would be able to trim their squad and recoup value on a player they signed less than a year ago.
