Could Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury take place in America?
Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are still contractually tied to staging their long-awaited all-British heavyweight showdown in the UK, according to Eddie Hearn, with any move to shift the fight to the United States requiring a full renegotiation.
The Matchroom promoter, who represents Joshua, made it clear that unless new terms are agreed by both sides, the fight remains firmly set for British soil and would still “100%” go ahead in the UK this year.
Talk of Las Vegas hosting the blockbuster clash continues to gather pace, but Hearn says there has been no formal approach from Saudi powerbroker Turki Alalshikh to relocate the bout.
“We’ve got a great relationship with Turki Alalshikh,” Hearn said.
“If he comes to me and says, I want to do the fight in America for this reason, we’ll all be very disappointed because I don’t think there’s a person on the planet that doesn’t think this fight should take place in the UK.
“But he’s paying the bill and the bill is extortionate. So you’ve got to find a way to make it work. So, if they want to change anything in the contract, we have to renegotiate the contract and start again.”
Hearn also pushed back on claims from Dana White that he would be involved in promoting the event, insisting Zuffa Boxing has no role in proceedings unless Joshua’s camp agrees to alter the existing agreement.
Meanwhile, Frank Warren, Fury’s promoter, said earlier this week that a meeting between all parties will soon take place to finalise the date and location of the fight.
Hearn expects those talks to happen next week, but insists the only realistic threat to the bout is either fighter losing beforehand, with Joshua due to face Kristian Prenga on 25 July and Fury mooted to have an interim fight on 1 August.
“I’m 100% confident it happens in 2026 unless someone gets beat,” Hearn added.
