Farrell has led Ireland since succeeding Joe Schmidt following the 2019 Rugby World Cup and has overseen one of the most successful periods in the nation’s recent history. Ireland and England share one of international rugby’s longest-standing rivalries. Following their 2026 Six Nations meeting, the nations have faced each other 144 times, with England recording 81 victories, Ireland 55 and eight matches ending in a draw.

Recent Six Nations meetings have favoured Ireland, who have won five of the last six Championship encounters between the sides. Their most recent meeting came at Twickenham on 21st February 2026, when Ireland recorded an emphatic 42–21 victory, their biggest-ever winning margin away to England.
