Andy Farrell’s Ireland are set to welcome France to the Aviva Stadium for their clash in the 2025 Guinness Six Nations. Farrell’s side will be looking for victory as they look to become the first nation to win the Six Nations in three consecutive years. Fabien Galthié’s visiting French team are set to target victory against the reigning Champions in Dublin.
These two teams are set to come face to face on Saturday, 8th March 2025, in what is set to be a 14:15pm kick-off.
In 2019, current Ireland Head Coach Andy Farrell was appointed as the successor to Joe Schmidt, and Farrell has since had a very successful five years in charge to date. The former Saracens player has led his nation to two consecutive Six Nations Championships in 2023 and, most recently, in the 2024 edition of this competition. He and his team are now looking to make history with a third consecutive title in 2025.
Ireland has won the Guinness Six Nations 6 times to date over the years, with their wins in 2023 and 2024 just two of their most recent wins in this prestigious competition. Their other 4 wins were in 2009, 2014, 2015 and in 2018.
As for France, they too have won this Championship on a number of occasions – 5 to be exact. Their first win broke the early dominance of England. After England had won the title in 2000 and 2001, France prevented them from making it three in a row by winning the Six Nations back in 2002. Their other four title wins in this competition came in 2004, 2006, 2007 and most recently (as of the time of writing) in 2010. They did go on to win the Grand Slam in 2010, as they had also done in 2002 and 2004.
The most recent encounter between Ireland and France, of course, came in the most recent Guinness Six Nations Championship on Friday, 2nd February 2024 – the opening night of that year’s Championship. The game itself took place at the Orange Velodrome in Marseille, and it saw Ireland come away with a commanding 17 – 18 victory in the end, with Jamison Gibson-Park (15’), Tadhg Beirne (29’), Calvin Nash (45’), Dan Sheehan (61’) and Ronan Kelleher (77’) all scoring tries for the visitors. Damian Penaud (39’) and Paul Gabrillagues (52’) scored the only two tries for the home side that day.
This was also a historic result, as it was Ireland’s biggest-ever victory against France on French soil to date.
The top ten of the World Rugby Rankings is where the best international teams are to be found, and both Ireland and France occupy spots. Ireland sits in second place with no less than 90.69 points following their second consecutive Guinness Six Nations Championship, with South Africa above them with 94.54 points. As for France, they are currently in fourth place with 87.92 points—only New Zealand, Ireland, and South Africa are above them.
Overall, in all competitions, Ireland and France have come face to face on no less than 103 occasions. It is Ireland with the most victories as of the time of writing with 59 in comparison with 37 so far for France. There have been just 7 draws between them overall.
Excitement and anticipation are certainly building ahead of this crucial clash at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin as these two nations look to emerge with the 2025 Guinness Six Nations title at the conclusion of the fifth and final round of matches in the competition.
The game is set to take place on Saturday, 8th March 2025, with the game set to kick-off at 14:15 on that afternoon in Dublin.
