The current Head Coach of the Welsh international side is, of course, Steve Tandy, who has been leading his country since his appointment as Wales boss was confirmed back in July 2025, before he officially took charge on 1st September 2025, succeeding his predecessor Warren Gatland. The 2026 Six Nations was the first one with Tandy in charge.

Tandy has extensive coaching experience, having previously been the defence coach with the British & Irish Lions (2021), as well as being the defensive coach for the Waratahs (2018 – 2019) and for Scotland from 2019 to 2025. He has also served as Head Coach for Bridgend (2010 – 2012) and Ospreys (2012 – 2018).

In his playing career, he represented Neath from 1998 to 2003, and then the Ospreys from 2003 to 2010.

Between them, Wales and Ireland have won the highly prestigious Six Nations as many as 12 times, with both nations having won it 6 times to date, as of the time of writing. Wales’ most recent Six Nations Championship title win was back in 2021, whilst Ireland last won it in 2024.

Overall, Wales and Ireland have met competitively on 136 occasions across all competitions. It is Wales who have the superior record, with 70 victories compared with 60 for rivals Ireland, plus 7 draws. The aggregate score is currently 1,681–1,695 in favour of Wales.

The last time that Wales beat Ireland competitively was back in the 2021 Guinness Six Nations Championship, where they would go on to win 21 – 16 in a tight and competitive game at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, the capital of Wales.
