Italy v France Guinness Six Nations 2025
Gonzalo Quesada’s Italy will come face to face with a France side led by Fabien Galthié at the iconic and historic Stadio Olimpico as part of the 2025 Guinness Six Nations. France enters this championship looking to go one better and break Ireland’s dominance, whilst Italy will be looking to build on a 5th place finish in 2024’s Championship.
These two international teams will face off in the Italian Capital of Rome on Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, with a 15:00 kick-off.
Confirmation of Kieran Crowley’s successor in the Italian hot seat was confirmed when Quesada was confirmed as the new Italy Head Coach on 16 June 2023. The Argentine then officially took over the role some time later, on 1 January 2024. Fabien Galthié has been in charge of the French national team since he took over from Jacques Brunel in 2020, having been vice-head coach the year before.
As of the time of writing, Italy has never won the Six Nations, Five Nations, or Home Nations Championships, but they did show some progress in the 2024 Championship, finishing a record-high 5th place with 11 points accumulated from their 5 matches. They won their last match to prevent them from winning the Wooden Spoon.
France, however, is no stranger to success in the Six Nations Championship. They have won six times in this Championship, including in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, and most recently, 2022.
The most recent Six Nations match played between Italy and France took place at the Stade Pierre Mauroy in Lille, France, on Sunday, 25th February 2024. It was a 13 – 13 stalemate, and it was actually the only draw of the entire 2024 Six Nations Championships. Both got a try each, through Charles Ollivon (6’) and Ange Capuozzo (69’), respectively. Thomas Ramos got both of France’s penalties (13’, 44’), whilst Italy’s two penalties were scored by Martin Page-Relo (43’) and Paolo Garbisi (60’).
Both teams had one conversion each, which was scored by Thomas Ramos (7’) and Paolo Garbisi (70’), respectively.
The top ten of the World Rugby rankings are reserved for some of the best teams in the world of international rugby, and both of these nations occupy a place here. Starting with Italy, they currently find themselves a place higher in 8th place with 79.41 points after their performance in the most recent Six Nations Championship. As for France, they sit 4th on 87.92 points after a second-place finish at the 2024 Six Nations.
Overall, in all competitions, Italy and France have competed against each other 49 times, with France having the most wins with 45, compared to Italy’s 3. There has been just 1 draw between them.
This game between these two teams is set to take place at the historic Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy’s Capital, in the 2025 Guinness Six Nations on Sunday, 23rd February, in what is a 15:00 kick-off.
