Rugby is Wales’ national game and, as anyone entering the Principality Stadium in Cardiff will know, it is taken extremely seriously.
It is all about pride in traditions. As the crowds poor through the turnstiles, taking full advantage of the great hospitality and camaraderie on offer, there is a fantastic sense of anticipation.
Nerves are jangling. Everyone is on tenterhooks. All the better because the stadium is at the heart of the city – everything is pretty much in walking distance. It breeds a wonderful atmosphere.
Wales have faced tough tests at home against rivals England and 2018 Six Nations champions Ireland but after finishing first in 2019, Warren Gatland’s side will be vowing to defend their title.
Wales and England have competed head-to-head in 131 test matches, originally meeting in 1881 with the latter claiming 62 wins compared to Wales’ 57. It is a different story, however, when viewing their record with champions Ireland. Wales currently boasts 68 victories over their Irish counterparts who have 51.
In the last Six Nations match against Scotland, the tension was at boiling point between the two British rivals, with Wales just pipping Scotland to the post 11-18. Against France, Wales made a dramatic comeback in the second half and came back from being 16-0 down to take the victory. It was a tense showdown, which had all guests on the edge of their seats but ultimately Wales sealed the win.
Wales biggest ever Six Nations win was against Italy in 2016, where they defeated their European rivals 67-14. Last year was no different as Gatland’s men dominated once more, defeating Parisse’s men 26-15 toadd another win to the scoreboard.
With Wales, you can be guaranteed of enjoying a feast of world-class rugby. Will you be visiting the Principality Stadium?
